@Kitsu for an earlier post- I totally agree, my aunt claims to be this big horse person but she's tried horse meat just because she was given the opportunity. There's no way I'd do such. Would be as taboo as eating another human to me!

I don't, but I do work with Llamas a lot and I'm saving up for a Horse because I have the land to get one.

Have you alwase been fascinated with horses:
I love there gracefulness and how peaceful they are. Their gental giants with kind hearts and get along with any other animal.

Hey guys :3 I have a question.
I obviously would love to have a horse and I am curious to know when all of you bought your first one, and/or when you leased your first one. If you don't mind it'd be great if you included what state (if in America) or what country you live in. And also your age when you bought/leased it.
I only want to know about your location because in certain places it's a lot more common for everybody to own a horse, and I want to be able to compare your experiences to mine. Where I live riding isn't a very common thing at all and owning horses is extremely expensive- I've never even leased before!

Hey again Duskie! I've always wanted to pet a Llama but I've never gotten to they look like such cool critters! That's a pretty cool idea you have tbh, if I had to say my favorite breeds are Mustangs and Appaloosas.

Shakti, I probably won't be much help as I can tell we've grown up very different. I live in the USA, Texas to be exact, where having a horse is nothing spectacular. Horses are everywhere. I come from a line of horse trainers, I'm the 3rd generation in a row to work with animals. I say this honestly, I can't remember not ever having a horse when I was very young, my first equine specifically to be mine was a pony I don't even remember. I just know his name was Buckaroo. Never been horseless after that, we breed/train/sell them now. I'm all the time bringing friends over that don't have horses to ride and such, never even heard of leasing one!
If it says anything, they're so common here, if people can't take care of them sometimes they just let them loose. My Grandma had a pair of donkeys in her yard one morning wanting to get in with her horses it's the same with dogs and cats though. I realize I'm no help
During the winter things can take a pricy turn if you're not careful, but usually I can find square bales of hay for around $5 or roundbales for under $60. Going to our local auctions, depending on the "quality" of the horse you're looking at, you can buy horses all day at less that $100. To me a horse is a horse, I don't care if it's purebred, none of mine are and they make my life happy
Now my aunts into purebred breeding, and she's usually fetching $2500 and up. That's not my style, just because a horse have his great-great-great-great-great grandsire on paper doesn't tell me if he can work like I need him to. I'll stop here, if I keep goings I'll be on a rant xD
Above all, tack and vet bills are the most expensive.

Do you own/work with any horses: I currently own two. A nineteen year old gelding named Root Beer Float aka Rudy. He's a mix of several breeds. He's dark bay with dapples standing at 13.1 hands. I also own an OTTB Shutterbug aka Lyric. She raced on the track until she was five and then I acquired her. She's about 16.2 hands (I need to measure her again) and a beautiful chestnut with birdcatcher spots. She's forever injuring herself. I also teach lessons at a barn and ride several of the owners horses and lesson horses.

Other: I work at SmartPak and I'm currently attending online college for Small Business Management so I can eventually run my own barn and business. My horses live at home with me and I'm a total bookworm.
