Dragons have always been a part of Alagaesia's history, longer than any man could remember. The Riders and their dragons once ruled over Alagaesia, protecting and serving its people. Now, however, the Riders have long since fallen - despite the absence of Riders, dragons still flourish. Feral dragons roam the skies, the ground, the sea - while revered, to anger a dragon meant death. Some respected these creatures, while others hated them.

With the rise of the new King, the Riders became a negative part of their history - while the Fall was shrouded in mystery, the King wielded it for his benefit, turning the public against the Riders of Old. Now, it seems, the Riders are returning - the world that once revered them, however, have all but turned against them.

But something bigger seems to be rising - something has been affecting the dragons. Wild dragons act erratically, they do not behave as the grand, exalted beings they are known as. The patterns noted previously mean nothing in the face of their fire and claws. Bonded dragons are losing their touch, refusing to speak any language and behaving like feral beasts- even attacking their riders. The dwarves have retreated into there cities, blaming the riders for bringing the tragedy upon them, saying that any majestic beast such as a dragon forced under the yoke of a man is bound to break at some point. The elves say nothing, no word has been passed through them for some time. They are there, and their cities open, but every citizen is frantically busy; searching their histories and performing their rituals in any attempt to ease the wound upon their home. Human kingdoms close upon themselves, scoring outsiders and raising armies. They blame each other, and olive branches and bridges alike are burned.

Among the disarray, odd creatures are popping up along the continent, bewildering even the smartest elf and oldest dragon. Whispy things made of silver or gold, one second dancing in the scattering light and the next blown away with the wind. They speak no language, make no noise, and have no home, but wherever they appear they leave their mark. Animals and plants alike seem to bend to their will, forming strange beings and pockets of magical landscapes.

Perhaps these creatures are bending the dragons to their will? Even the elves do not know. One thing is for certain - if the dragons' behaviors became more erratic, what once was cities and villages may simply become burned, charred masses of what once was.

Storyline was created by Reikier!
------
In general, the rules of how the world/Alagaesia works is the same as in the books, although instead of dragons basically being extinct/non-existent except for a small handful, like during Eragon's time, there are plenty of dragons, but most are wild and generally pretty feral. (So villages get burned down frequently because someone decided to piss off one of the dragons and whatnot, lol). Riders are pretty much non-existent, though, since years of living with wild, easily-pissed off dragons kind of makes everybody hate them lol. (Obviously, there will be riders in the roleplay. :))

There are elves, dwarves, and the like, and I think I'm gonna have it so any human/dwarf/elf etc character can be a rider (I know in the books it was only humans and elves, I think.)

Tirr nodded dumbly, sitting down in a cross legged position, setting the egg in front of him. Gently, he held the egg in his hands and helped the squirming dragonet out.

Shrondurn shoved his way through the eggshell remnants, squeaking loudly as his wet blue-gray scales shone slightly. Tirr bit back a laugh, barely believing what was haping in front of his eyes and hands. The hatchling turned towards him, making an odd face that resembled a human scowl. The dragonet did not know what sound his partner just made, but he did not find it amusing. Shrondurn huffed, wiping the fluid off himself and onto Tirr's pantleg.

Tirr chuckled again, gently reaching out to touch the dragonet. Durn happily chipped and rubbed his horned head against Tirr's palm, bringing forth a shout from him. The half-elf pulled back his hand, exaiming the scar that formed oon his right palm. The dragonet jumped back, startled, did he do that?

"Aw, don't worry about it, Little Lizard." He stood up slowly, looking to the rider as Shrondurn circled his feet and sniffed him, "Is that normal, too?" He asked

Yup. Perfectly normal" Mialöldrí said, removing the glamor she'd held over her palm. "See?" She said, turning her palm outwards to face him. "Don't name your dragon. Let him name himself. That's what they do. Jedish chose her name and many other shoes have as well." She said, her raven hair pulled back into a braid and her pointed ears obvious against her dark hair. "I can train you and help you train your dragon, if you'd wish" Mialöldrí said as Jedish leaned her head forwards towards the dragon hatchling, huffing a gentle greeting.

Relnin finally decided to pull out his sword, facing the dragon down. Rao had now moved in front of him fully, and seemed to be concentrating - the dragon reached out with her mind, attempting to make contact with the dragon in front of her. She had no idea whether it would work - after all, she had never encountered another dragon before. If it couldn't speak or communicate with them at all, she would have no choice but to take Relnin and attempt to escape; this dragon seemed to be more aggressive than she, and as much as she wasn't afraid to start a fight, the last thing the young dragon wanted was for Relnin to become caught in the middle of a dragon battle.
----
The Lake loomed up ahead, the sun shining blindingly off of the surface as Tigimdarr glided through the sky. He wasn't too concerned with whether the people of Dras-Leona happened to make a scene when he came close - they usually did, seeing as he was very large, but he had no intentions of becoming a threat to them.

Water and food were all that concerned him at that moment. And right now, if it were possible, Tigimdarr felt as if he could drink the entire lake.

He was beginning to miss his cave already, however - Tasal was really his only company. As much as he enjoyed the company of the dragon, sometimes he felt cooped up and had to leave. Especially when he became hungry. He really only stayed in his cave due to the fact that he really saw no point in leaving. Life just didn't hold the same appeal to him as it once did - it hadn't for a very, very long time.

His nostrils flared as the scent of two distinct dragons filled his nose; he snorted, a large plume of smoke drifting into the sky. Hopefully they would have the sense to stay away from him. He could smell something else, too - something that smelled like an elf. He hadn't been near Du Weldenvarden in so long that he had almost forgotten what an elf smelled like - of course, he could never forget completely. He had lived part of his life there, long ago.

"These memories are off limits."

Shrondurn sniffed his rider's shoes tentatively, smelling something he instinctively knew was food. The hatchling chomped into his chow, reeling back as he recognized it was not actually food. Shrondurn sniffed the shoe again, confused. He peeped indignantly as Jedish sniffed him, raising onto his hind legs and flapping his wings for balance. The hatchling waved his talons around clumsily, shaking off the last bits of eggshell from between his green claws. Chirping again, he returned the greeting gleefully.

Tirr smiled as the hatchling bit into his shoe and greeted Jedish, amused with the hatchling's curiosity. He watched in awe as Mialöldrí displayed her mark, narrowing his eyes slightly as he finally realized she was an elf. He wasn't supposed to get involved with elf-kind, and he wouldn't be eager to even with out the warnings by his father. But, she was a rider and he didn't know how many chances like this he'd get. He forced a smile and nodded.

"Could you? I mean, if it's ok with you of course, because since you're a rider you're obviously probably very busy and-" a chidding chirp from Shrondurn interrupted his cop-out, "I mean, I would, if you would please. But, er, I'm afraid right now I have to return to my father. I'm sure i can get you through the crack in the back wall..." he spoke the last part as he stopped to the small hatchling.

Jedish smiled and backed up, her blue eyes watching the area. "I will, although I warn you. He will get bigger and it will be harder to keep him in a home or train him somewhere that will keep civilians safe." She warned. "I will wait here for a few days, and then I will have to return to Ellesméra." She said

Hecate tilted his head at Rao, before settling down. “You are not a human slave? He asked, reaching tendrils of his mind out into her, foragingnfir information.

Ais spotted a large shadow the shape of a dragon pass over Lake Leona. His head snapped up, and he spotted the large black dragon. He was huge. He beat his wings, and lifted off after the black dragon, trying to catch up to him.

Kaezier brushed aside the leaves of the bush to reveal the dragon egg. "Whoa." He whispered. He had certainly heard tales of dragon riders before. He reached out to touch the dragon egg, and it started rocking back and forth, a crack splitting the surface of the egg.

Yes! My rider is finally here! Zaekor cheered silently. He reached out in his egg, and, eager to meet his rider, started to break out of the egg.

The young female was startled by the presence of another mind, different from Relnin's. A dragon's mind certainly felt much more powerful than a human's. Rao seemed to snort indignation, as if the question this strange dragon had asked offended her. "I am no slave."

Relnin watched with fascination as the two dragons looked at one another - they must be speaking, but what about?

Noticing his confusion, Relnin momentarily managed to shut herself off from the other dragon, focusing on her Rider. "He is asking whether I am a slave."

Relnin frowned, frustrated. "Why would he ask you...that?"

Rao simply huffed in response, turning back to the dragon in front of her. Only then did Relnin realize the ease with which he was starting to converse with her - he had only begun speaking with her recently and within the span of almost twelve hours - he noted, as the sun would begin sinking soon - they had already become closer.

The smell of another dragon become stronger, and Tigimdarr snorted again. It seems they have chosen to bother me rather than fly away.

He tilted his wings slightly, managing to slow his movements. His head swiveled to look behind him, spotting what seemed to be a younger, white dragon flying towards him. Perhaps I will entertain this young one for a few moments. He had nothing better to do, after all.

Ais soon caught up to Tigimdarr, and let out a friendly roar. Well, perhaps it wasn't that friendly, but at least it wasn't hostile. He studied the older dragon. The dragon seemed to be scarred, and was much older than him. A few hundred years, perhaps?

As Kaezier watched the tiny dragonet hatch out of its egg, he reached out to touch it. The moment his fingers made contact with the dragonet, there was a burning pain in his palm. He pulled back, and revealed a marking on his palm. The dragonet let out a squawk. Its scales was the color of blood, with darker markings at the horns, spikes, tail, and legs.

Zaekor shook out his wings. The outside world was so...bright. As he felt his future rider touch him, he let out a happy squawk and scrambled over to Kaezier.

Hecate tilted his head. Truly? Young one, I had no idea that bonds could happen anymore! He replied, waving his silver wings about. My father told me that the magic that made dragons and humans able to bond disappeared when the shapes came, so humans began to force eggs to hatch and then enslaved them by shaping their true name and then using it on them!

Kaezier watched the dragonet scrambled towards him. What’s your name? he thought in his mind. The dragonet paused, then replied, My name is Zaekor! And yours? Kaezier blinked, Kaezier. He watched as Zaekor clawed his way up his arm, and he winced at the sharp claws. So I’m your rider? The one you’ve been waiting for? Kaezier asked the little red dragonet.

Yes!

(omg why am I so damn lazy? I need to get the plotline up lmao I'm so sorry guys)

Rao tilted her head slightly at the dragon's words, attempting to understand. She understood his words - what she was pondering on was what exactly these "shapes" were. She frowned, stepping forward slightly. "So you have no Rider? Interesting." She pondered out loud, her tail swishing back and forth lazily.

"What are these....shapes?"She asked, tilting her head to the side in confusion.
-------
Tigimdarr turned his head away, deciding to just ignore the dragon, when he heard a roar from behind him. It didn't seem hostile - more like a friendly call to the dragon in front of him. He huffed slightly, turning to look at the white dragon flying towards him.

Usually, dragons who had been feral for most of their existence didn't readily approach other dragons, unless they were being territorial and intended to attack. This dragon showed no signs of being hostile, however. Tigimdarr had met many dragons who had been bonded with Riders in his lifetime - Tasal was one such dragon. Perhaps this one had a Rider, too?

The thought made his stomach churn, for a reason he would rather not speak out loud, but he decided to turn, managing to hover slightly as he rotated his wings to stay in the sky with minimal movement. He let out a loud snort, a sort of a rough greeting, in response.
-----
The forest was beginning to thin as the dwarves moved through the trees, their goats occasionally grabbing leaves off of nearby foliage as they trotted along. There was a small checkpoint up ahead with a few donkeys tied up, and then they would be off, into the desert.

It was getting dark soon, anyways - the Shrrgs were bound to ambush them if they stayed out after dark, especially with the Feldunost - the smell of goat seemed to attract the massive canines. Korvaskkrr quite liked the wolves, if he were honest, but he had almost lost an arm to one before, and as much as he found them fascinating, he wasn't going to risk losing an arm again.

Several of the dwarves were muttering to themselves as they moved out of the trees, the shapes of the donkeys becoming visible in the shade of one of the mountains above. They were all grumbling in annoyance at the prospect of having to ride one of those - equines did not get along with dwarves - but nonetheless, they all began to dismount.

Hecate tilted his head. The shiny silver and gold smoke-things? You haven't seen them? They make you feel kind of angry? He asked, lowering his silvery head to the iridescent younger dragon.

(Can dragons speak to each other? Lmao xD)

Ais slowed as Tigimdarr hovered. He let out a few uncertain growls. Why had he chased after Tigimdarr? Why had he left the Beor Mountains so suddenly?

Kaezier watched as Zaekor floundered about in the clearing in front of his cabin. The little dragon chased after butterflies.

(Yeah, they can! Feral dragons usually communicate through images and feelings, memories and whatnot if I remember correctly - I might be wrong. I know Saphira and Glaedr talked using words, lol, so yeah, they can talk to each other!)

Tigimdarr looked the smaller dragon up and down. He didn't seem to be speaking - instead, he seemed more uncertain than anything. The thought almost made the larger dragon laugh, but he didn't say a word. He was now looking him over for signs of the dragon having a Rider; the white dragon didn't seem to have one from appearances, so he figured the next step would be to initiate conversation, and see if the dragon could communicate using words instead of images and emotions.

The problem was, the larger dragon hadn't initiated any sort of conversation with any dragon other than Tasal in a very, very long time. The idea was almost daunting to him, but he decided to just wait and see what the other dragon wanted. After all, he had approached him first.
-----
Rao lashed her tail, sweeping leaves in a side to side motion, disrupting the forest floor as she pondered over the other dragon's words. " No. I have not seen such things. I am young - I have not been much of anywhere." She attempted to explain - if a dragon could visibly frown, she would be doing so.

The idea of something that made you feel angry on its own made Rao feel slightly nervous. Relnin was startled when he sensed the dragon's emotions - he still wasn't used to being linked with her - and he laid his hand on her shoulder again. That seemed to relax the brilliantly-colored dragon, and she huffed slightly, her tail stilling its motions.

"I am Raollinthal." She decided to introduce herself, tilting her head to the side as she regarded the other dragon with curiosity.
