A time where vampire myths are commonly believed, and suspicion of the undead is high.
You reside in the town of Rivercrest, which seems like just another town, but when night falls it becomes far more sinister.

You are a vampire, and now it's time you have to choose whether you'll be swayed by your immortal bloodlust and feast to your undead heart's content, either manipulating your way to the top, using your wits to avoid being caught, isolating from the mortals and only interacting when it's time to feed, or simply slaughtering all those who oppose you. Or, you could try your best to shun who you are, and feed as little as possible, or only on consenting humans. But without feeding, you'll soon begin to find your immortality dwindling.
But, it's not just human hunters you have to worry about, werewolves will stop at nothing to rip you to shreds, if you're not careful, the toxic rays of dawn could soon turn you to mere ashes, or other vampires who find your existence irritating could try to slay you.

The roleplay is currently set in the 12th century.

As a vampire, you have to feed often, or you will begin to weaken. For every couple in-roleplay weeks, you have to feed, if you do not, your stats will drop by one, and your given immortality will soon begin to dwindle. You can kill an npc while feeding, or you can try your best to restrain yourself from completely killing them, or even ask for consent, but however, all of these come with their own consequences.

For example, if you try to ask an NPC and it fails, (An action that takes into consideration the NPCs personality, their relationship with you and your own Charisma stat.) Their suspicion of you will be very high, which will cause other NPCs to begin to shun or distrust you, or even hire mercenaries to hunt you down. The same with killing, if you're caught while feeding or killing, the town's suspicion of you will rise dramatically.

As the roleplay progresses over the irl months, and from how fast the roleplay progresses, the time period will also change, adapting through the centuries. And as your vampire ages, they will also grow stronger and you can choose 2 stats to improve per century.

Vampires in this roleplay will follow quite basic rules, they will turn to ash if exposed to sunlight for more than a couple seconds, they can only be killed by total removal of the head or heart, a weapon through the heart, or complete destruction of the heart or head. A vampire will look like a normal human when not feeding or feeling intense emotions, but their irises will turn red and fangs will grow. Vampires usually have the same abilities, their strength varying from how close they are to the first vampire, so a mortal turned by a vampire that was turned by the first vampire would be far stronger than a vampire turned by another vampire 8 generations from the first vampire.
It also depends on how long it was since the vampire last fed on human blood. But, the traits all vampires have are, immortality, enhanced sight, sense of smell, and hearing, super speed and strength, and enhanced regeneration.
Other powers are possible including telepathy, telekinesis, mind reading, hypnosis, invisibility, pyromancy, and more, although those are extremely rare. They cannot turn into a bat or grow wings.

Cassie nodded as Estrid talked, eagerly hanging onto her words. If some of the best Vampires had died in that fight, we had figure out what went wrong, and why they didn't win. There was plenty of guesses she could assume, like, there were a lot more Mutts then we anticipated, or they were caught of guard, but those were simply, just guesses.

"Alright. If what you said was accurate, then it is safe to assume that we would not win in a head to head battle. However, if the Mutts don't know our total numbers, so we could use that was a way to win." She scratched her head nervously, as she spoke her thoughts out loud.

"We have to get them to think that our numbers are lower then they are now. If we make them believe that simple lie, it could higher our chances of winning. Then, if it came down to it, we could lure the Werewolves into a trap, with what they thought was the last of our Kind, and pounce on them when they least expect it." Her eyes darted back and forth, as she stared beyond, out the the forest.

"Sure, there is tons of flaws, and the chances of us being successful in general are low, but it's something to start with atleast." She shrugged.

"That makes sense, and could possibly work, but we need to figure out how they knew where to find that town, how they managed to find us, and figure out what they know. We need to get the upper hand, these mutts may be dull, but they thrive off of coordinating as a pack, with strategy. Without our own strategy, we will fall."

"But, our first call must be to inform the remainder of our kind, to get them on our side. ..As much as I hate to say this, but do you know whether Randolph Payne is still about? One of my progeny turned him, the fool. To have a moment of weakness for a dying beggar, I will never understand. But, my own opinions aside he is still one of us. Last time I heard he was still skulking around here."

"Randolph?" Cassie echoed, as she scanned her memory for someone that fits that description.

"Actually, I think I remember seeing him recently, or at least someone like that." She answered, scratching the back of her head. "Do you think he would stand by us and fight?" She asked, a curious glint in her eyes.

"And, the Others, you know where they are? All of them?"

"I'm not sure, but I know for certain he wouldn't stand by as Werewolves rip him apart. I suppose an enemy of his enemy approach may work. I don't expect us all to get along, frankly I couldn't care less about whether you want to see me in dust, but it's a simple fact of we have no choice." She said with her trademark icy cold demeanor. "And, yes. I keep an eye on our numbers and of any.. Changes. Like I already knew of you and.. The whelp before I even set foot here."

(Hey, I'm thinking about moving this roleplay to Discord, as it may be easier for people to reply, and we might get more people joining. Does anyone here have Discord? ^^)

Lothar Penn ⋄ BEGIN OF THREAD

⎡ Rivercrest. Night was approaching.
When night approached, so did the creatures of the more.. wicked breed. Werewolves and vampires alike ruled the scape of night, yet the two races were warring relentlessly. Vampire's numbers were dwindling, and the newly fledged Lothar Penn knew all too well of it. He had no real connections to any other vampires in the town— after all, he preferred to keep his distance as to avoid proper detection— yet the concerning reports of maimed bodies popping up concerned the newly turned male. He had to be more vigilant with who he did and didn't lure and seduce back to his quarters to feed upon. With tensions running high, prey was much more harder to come by. His usually doe-brown eyes were now usually tinged with the faintest flush of crimson. As much as he loved Rivercrest, he knew moving would be his ultimatum if he valued his safety.

Currently, the brown-haired sir was occupying himself at Walter Kemp's inn. Being in the presence of another vampire always comforted Lothar somehow, and with night coming about, nobody but the more nocturnal kind would be out and about at this hour. Tending to his own business, he currently was enjoying a book and a cup of black tea. Although blood dominated the liquid side of his diet, he enjoyed normal drinks just as much. Scratching absentmindedly behind one of his ears, he snorted through his nose in a casual action. ⎦

i hope this is an aight starter 🥺 i love my boyo already //

[Walter Kemp - Vampire]

Walter gave a slight sigh at Estrid's words, he knew that existing for many centuries would turn someone jaded and cold, but he almost felt pity for her. He had known her long enough to understand her coldness was just a protective wall built up over countless years.

"I'll be back, I just need to collect some things from the Inn." The man plastered on a smile, Estrid gave a curt nod, "Of course. Don't be long." She said in her usual distant tone. Walter began to walk off, hoping his eyes didn't give away the fear clutching at his mind. If it's truly as bad as Estrid says, there's no other outcome than all out war, against an enemy far more numerable than us. He repressed a shudder as dark and vivid memories fought to push their way back to the front of his mind.

Walking into the Inn, he startled at the sight of a brown haired man sitting by the fire. "Oh, sorry! I wasn't expecting any patrons today. Unfortunately the Inn will be closing for a while-" He abruptly stopped, seeing the tint of red in the man's eyes, noting the lack of a heartbeat or breath he'd usually easily be able to hear. "I haven't seen you around before. Newly turned?" He said with a kind smile. For an undead creature, Walter seemed awfully warm.

⎡ If there was one thing Lothar certainly did, it was that he eavesdropped. Not on purpose, frankly, but what was he meant to do when he had superb hearing abilities. If anything, he peeked in on conversations even when he didn't want to. A curse and a blessing, all in one. Hearing a few bits and pieces from outside, he assumed something didn't bode well.
Perking up, Lothar blinked and looked up at Walter, a bit stunned at being taken notice of. Opening his mouth to speak at the news of the inn closing for a bit, Lothar felt his pale, usually cold cheeks flicker with some kind of embarrassed warmth when Walter picked up on the fact he was a newly turned vampire— a fledgling— as some called it. "Ah, yes, I am." Lothar replied curtly, hoping his flusteredness wasn't too visible. "I moved here not too while ago— I prefer to keep myself out of public affairs." Lothar added, taking a sip of his tea as he stared almost pensively into the cup of swirling black liquid, it's strong, herbal scent not providing its usual warmth and comfort. ⎦

He smiled understandably, a soft and obviously comforting expression on his features. "I really can't blame you, those first 30 or so years are always the toughest." He said empathetically, however his tone darkened. "Especially with what's been going on, but lone vampires are far more vulnerable." Noticing the red in the fledgling's eyes deepen, Walter changed the subject swiftly.
"But, you look like you need to feed, lad. You can feel free to feed off of one of the humans sleeping upstairs." His expression soon turned stern and serious. "But do not kill or seriously injure any of the patrons, okay?"

"Anyways, our kind needs to stick together. Could we possibly talk when you're.. Ahem, finished?" His friendly demeanor returned, offering a polite smile.

Certainly right about that. Lothar thought, supressing the urge to chuckle a bit. At the mention of being allowed to feed, Lothar gave Walter a genuinely thankful smile, but the eerie sight of his usually round pupils constricting to thin slits as his gaze slowly shifted to the stairs leading up towards the rooms of the sleeping patrons was enough to make near anyone shudder in mild discomfort. Clearing his throat and closing his eyes, his attention returned to Walter, his pupils once again rounded, albeit now in the shape of two fat almonds that almost— almost— looked like the properly circular pupils of a normal human.
"Thank you kindly for your offer, sir. If it's alright with you, I can wait to feed a bit longer— I can't help but feel the need your request to speak is in a more urgent nature." Lothar spoke, his voice a surprisingly tame mewl of a murmur. For a younger fledgling, he showed impressive skill in the 'keeping composure so he doesn't rip someone into shreds' department, mainly due to his prowess in mainly charisma. ⎦

The man eyed him slightly nervously, newly fledged vampires are very prone to going into a bloodlust. "If you're sure.. I'll try to make this brief. You probably already know of the recent werewolf attacks." He paused to gauge the younger Vampire's reaction. "Well, with the situation growing severe, Estrid Chamberlain is gathering all vampires together as a strength in numbers tactic, instead of letting us be picked off one by one. You should probably come with us, a newly turned vampire is.. Easy prey for those beasts." His tone was unusually grave, before he spoke again in a more sympathetic tone.

"If any vampire can get us through this, it's Estrid. She's.. Not the easiest to get along with, especially with strangers, but she won't let any harm come to you." His tone was comforting, but you couldn't help but notice the slight fear in his own expression. "She's survived 800 bloody years already, I'm sure she'll survive another few." He laughed, but a tint of sadness pricked at his eyes.

Lothar Penn ⋄

⎡ The fledgling listened closely to Walter's words, perking up subtly as he nodded with a slightly somber tone. He had been lucky with the fact none of those mutts had sniffed him out yet— he never encountered a werewolf before, and he wasn't keen either on it ever occurring. "So I see.." Lothar murmured softly, blinking at the next mention of Estrid Chamberlain. As he was taking a sip of his tea, the news of her being a vampire almost made him spit it out, Lothar taking in a sharp gulp as he coughed slightly, wiping his mouth with a handkerchief from his breast pocket. Oh, of course she'd be a vampire— Stars above, it was so obvious, how did he not see it until now? "800 years?" Lothar stammered out slightly, making it debatable if he was shocked either by how old she was, or if he was more-so impressed.
Lothar's lips parted subtly as he thought over his choices, his gaze averting from Walter to the fireplace. He could just run off again like he did from his old hometown, but the threat of those mangy flea-bags roaming around just further threatened his chances of survival. ".. I'll do it— Not much other options." Lothar replied, short, sweet and simple as he always did. Besides, a small, childish bit of him was illuminated with glee at the possibility of getting to properly meet Estrid herself— if his ears hadn't failed him, he could've sworn he had heard her just outdoors. He had only heard bits and whispers of the noblewoman and her presence around town, and from the tales he had heard, she probably would exceed his idea of who she was. .. Ah, but what did he know? He was just a wee fledgling after all! She probably wouldn't give him the time of day, anyways.

"Where will we all be headed? Somewhere quite far, I assume?" ⎦

Walter laughed slightly at the man's exclamation. "She does a good job at fooling the humans, that's for sure." He said with a slightly uncomfortable tone. Letting the fledgling speak more before replying again. "Thank you, if any of us are to survive this, we need to work together. But.. Please know, this may end in war with those beasts, you don't have to fight, but we must be prepared for that scenario."

"And yes, we'll be travelling to most of the vampire settlements, most of them are in Europe, but some will require further travel. But this is the only way." He sighed, running a hand through his thick blonde hair. "But, you'll need to get your strength up for the journey, and so do I. There could be times of.. Famine." "Especially with Estrid about." he mumbled to himself with a darkly humorous tone.

⎡ Fighting.. That certainly something Lothar was anticipating with no warm welcome. He wasn't a fan of violence, even as a human he wasn't a fan— but if occasion called, he knew it'd had to be done. "I'm more than alright with collaboration." Loather purred, nodding his head as he offered Walter one of his signature half-smiles— he often only did it when he showed subtle but certain support, and even that was rare. After all, he didn't support people, per-se, he just did it to get them to out of public, to his house, to his bed and then their blood in his stomach. When it came to humanity, Lothar certainly had lost his capacity to care for them outside of them being bred and fed like livestock. "War is.. to be expected, frankly. I'm certainly not a fighter, not with my fragility and young age," What an absolute lie. Lothar wasn't fragile at all. "I wouldn't last a single day on the field— I'd much leave that to Estrid and her legions— but I'll certainly pitch in whenever I can."
On the topic switching to the vampire settlements, Lothar couldn't help but feel apprehensive— not in a bad way— more of a 'oh, so there ARE others like me that don't want me dead' kind of way. A bit of him was thrilled to have a place to go, but another place of him somewhat dreaded having to be dragged to Europe. He was born in Europe— Mainly Russian descent— and his family would be probably teeming around that place like louses. Eugh. Being a Penn was a prize, yes, but Lothar's.. gallivanting certainly drove his family members up a wall. .. No matter, he'd just become some recluse or something. Live inside forever and never come out, y'know? ... Yeah, no. If there was one thing Lothar was incapable of, it was being stuck in the same four walls all day. Besides, the settlement wouldn't be that bad, would it? ⎦
