A Complete Guide to Breed-Only Traits This guide is made by and for The Lioden Conservatory, and is made public to help others! This guide assumes you know a little bit about Lioden and its mechanics. It can be easily understood by new and returning players, however. I also recommend viewing this guide on a computer rather than mobile, as it is formatted specifically for computers.
So, if you've been on Lioden for any amount of time, you've probably heard people talking about this mythical thing called 'BO' on their lions. And you're... probably a little confused. I mean, BO means body odor, right? Well... not on Lioden. On Lioden, BO refers to breed-only. What does breed only mean? I'm so glad you're asked! Breed-Only refers to traits that can primarily or only be obtained through breeding.
Note that 'primarily'? That's important. This is because Random Marking Applicators (RMAs) can be used to apply breed-only markings, though it's very, very rare. If we were to count breed-only traits based off of traits that could absolutely only be obtained through breeding, we wouldn't have a whole lot of markings to work with!
So, you're probably asking, what are breed-only traits? Well, since that is a very, very complicated question depending on the traits you ask about, we will be dividing this guide in sections.

Please note that 'Breed-Only' is a community term. Ultimately, you are free to decide what you personally think is considered breed-only. I am writing this guide using the most common community definitions, as well as referencing Breed-Only Beauties, the largest clan dedicated to breed-only traits. If you have any questions, I would recommend reading the clan description, or you can ask here and I'll answer to the best of my ability! The Breed-Only community is very old, having existed since 2014, and as a result, these definitions have been honed for nearly a decade into what they are. That is why I am reporting these as fact, because they are what the community itself has decided. Some people's definitions may slightly vary, but it does not change what the general community has decided to call BO. I don't even think staff could really change what users now consider to be breed-only, not without a ton of backlash.
FAQ
Q: Why aren't Tier 6 Markings considered BO?
This is due to the fact that they are introduced into the game via the Random Marking Applicator. Despite the fact that it is hard to roll these markings in a specific slot for the specific one you want, they come into the game by being applied, and as such, are not considered breed-only by the vast majority of BO breeders.
Q: Why aren't Piety Markings considered BO?
This is because Piety Markings can be applied during the November Event. Not only can you apply any one of them, you can do it with choice and in any slot you want, though you may have to fill specific slots to prevent them from going to the wrong slot. Since November Piety functions nearly the exact same way as event applicators, this makes most players consider piety markings to be applicator markings.
@315049 - Yes, so long as you make sure the lioness is bred during the Day. Combo bases are also considered factors for themselves!
@428344 - Yes, rosettes sometimes appear randomly. We don't know the exact mechanic that triggers them, hence saying it's random, but any rosette can occasionally show up on any cub in any slot.
