I understand this might be a bit of a controversial subject but what are your opinions on breeding your lions to their relatives? I know it happens in real life and it can cause flaws in the resulting offspring. But does it matter so much in a game? Would you do it to get pretty/ nice stat cubs no matter the messiness of the lineage? Or do you just find it abhorrent, no matter the fact the lions are just a bunch of pixels?

As for me, I wouldn't unless by accident (e.g studding to a lion that is related to one of my lionesses). I try to avoid it between my 2 accounts by having little symbols next to my lions' names. I'd much prefer a clean family tree. :3

Personally I do it, I mean like I don't do it for some kind of weird pleasure or anything X3 I do it for looks and stats. There is always a purpose behind my breeding pair-ups.

My current male is my rolled male and therefore ugly, so I practically never breed him (to lionesses that matter, anyway. He's my 'looking-for-mutations' experimental breeder). There's 0% inbreeding in my pride, at least on his part.

That being said, I can't be arsed to check if a lioness is inbred when I buy her. Add to that the fact that if you, say, breed the daughter of your first king to your second, the family tree gets confused....

Also, I know this was posted forever ago but:
"As a roleplay aspect I don't really care about inbreeding, it does happen all the time in real life. Humans are the only species not to inbreed because of defects but it doesn't work like that with animals so it's fine to me, why try to humanize it."

Humans are still animals. The royalty of Egypt used to marry brother and sister to keep the bloodline pure, and they managed to have multigenerational dynasties before defects got bad enough to matter. Line breeding animals isn't the best thing, either, and it's no different for a human to be line-bred vs an animal.

I fully intend to line breed if not even inbreed; I'm wanting to have this feel of a royal dynasty.

So there seems to be a confusion about genetics. Inbreeding affects all animals, even humans. Look up the 'Hapsburg chin' or hemophilia in European royalty. The thing is that a little bit of in breeding will have little to no affect on children short term (marrying ones second cousin or even first cousin was not taboo back in the day. In fact did you know that interbreeding with your second cousin is technically no more genetically damaging than interbreeding with someone you aren't related to? The only time this isn't true is if two parents carry a damaging genetic trait, but two 'unrelated' people carrying the same gene is no better just because they aren't related.

Sources: college level biology. Science. Geneticist major as a friend.

Tl;dr just introduce a non-related lion in the mix here and there and that is sufficient to maintain a genetically diverse pride.

I don't really care about line breeding or inbreeding.

And if we want to be realistic you wouldn't see any really gnarly mutations with first or second generation breeding. It takes several generations of inbreeding. Line breeding as also common practice with just about any pedigree animal breeding program. So eh. :/

I breed for looks and stats and if I have to I'll inbreed.

My queen will be bred back to her half brother at some point for the sake of preserving their markings

I find it genetically wise to be wrong. Given this is a game, it may not matter. If genetics were to show for what male and female lions have, then it would be a cause for concern.

Hmm, I'm on the fence. As of now, I'm avoiding inbreeding, but I still have yet to replace the rolled lion on this account. I have a stud up on the other thoug,h and I'm storing some of his daughters here to avoid breeding to them. They'll be bred to my next, non-related king. Problem after that, is I'll either have to source an outside heir or keep good track of lineages, as they'll be all by the same two boys lol. Which doesn't bother me, because hey, realistic lol, but I don't want all my lionesses to look the same best they'd share 75% of the same breeding background & therefor markings...

I think it is nice that we can choose if we wish to inbreed or not. Some people care about the lineage, some dont. It suits both in the end.

As for implementing some kind of negative effect for inbreeding... I think it would be too late for that now. Many lions on Lioden are inbred, even having been bred with their own parents, sisters, brothers, etc. It wouldnt be fair towards existing lions.

I for one dont care. In two generations now I bred brothers and sisters together in order to get nice heirs. Although, I roleplay my pride so this last breeding made the heir blind. I am glad however that it doesnt have a negative effect for it. If inbreeding would be an issue, then prides would need fresh blood all the time, with which I wouldnt be comfortable with. I like my pride the way it is.

It's nice to have the option. I'd do it for stats or looks, and since it doesn't effect game play in any way, shape or form, it doesn't matter to me :3

I do not inbreed when I plan to sell cubs because I know that to some people It matters. When I have to breed for my own, I really do not care, it's just pixels, they feels nothing XD

I don't care at all. They're just pictures and codes to me. I can't think of them any other way. I have been purposely avoiding doing it myself, however. Just because I've noticed a lot of other people care about it and I don't want to put anyone off of buying cubs from me.

I never realized I could inbreed my Lions. Thought some game mechanics might stop me like on another site.
