I understand this might be a bit of a controversial subject but what are your opinions on breeding your lions to their relatives? I know it happens in real life and it can cause flaws in the resulting offspring. But does it matter so much in a game? Would you do it to get pretty/ nice stat cubs no matter the messiness of the lineage? Or do you just find it abhorrent, no matter the fact the lions are just a bunch of pixels?

As for me, I wouldn't unless by accident (e.g studding to a lion that is related to one of my lionesses). I try to avoid it between my 2 accounts by having little symbols next to my lions' names. I'd much prefer a clean family tree. :3

I'm fine with the inbreeding in game since you can get some really nice marked lions through it and Lioden is just a game, though I don't support inbreeding in real life in any way, that's really gross and awful :(

Well, actually, a lot of pedigree dogs, horses and cats are inbred. Inbreeding is an effective tool in real life for 'securing' desireable traits in an animal, and is how we have the breeds we have today. It is called "line breeding. " Effectively, inbreeding causes a 'double copy' of genetics, making them easier to pass on said traits, since you need a double copy of certain genes to get them to display in an animal. For example, if you want to breed blue dogs, then the only way you can achieve that outcome is by having a double copy of that dilute gene. Therefore, you could have a brown dog with one blue parent and one brown parent and breed it to a blue dog with two blue parents. Your brown dog will then produce SOME blue pups. Whereas a brown dog with two brown parents bred to the blue dog with blue parents won't, because it needs double copies of the gene to be 'present'. It isn't limited to colour either - also physical and temperamental traits can be breed down in this way.

I do know, however, that breeding a brother/sister combination is not acceptable in line breeding.
If you ever look up the breeding of racehorses, you'll see it is as common as flies :)

I honestly don't even pay attention to if my lions are related, and I've just realized I may have inbred. Hmm. Idk if it matters to me if I inbreed in game, but it's definitely wrong it real life.

I don't like inbreeding my lions, it just makes my skin crawl. Granted I do like to breed to inbred lions if I like them enough. I only count the immediate heritage, the heritage you see when you hit the Full Heritage button. So I like to "breed out" the undesirable ancestors. Once no one lion is repeated in the immediate heritage, the lion I'm breeding is no longer considered inbred in my lore. And I'll be doing quite a bit of breeding out in a few weeks because my pure king, Palidan, will be succeeded by a dwarf of mine who has Keyser Soze in his immediate lineage 4 times. I usually use rolled studs to breed out a lion.

But when it comes to relatives breeding, it's a huge no no. I have an actual law in my pride that says that a king either cannot be inbred or can be inbred as long as he can produce daughters and sons who are not. Of course that law will be broken by my dwarf heir soon, but I'm not giving up the chance to have a dwarf king. However, any cubs he fathers cannot be bred any longer and will have an icon in their names which marks them as a child of his, and thus marks them as having undesirable traits. I'll probably keep them in my pride until I do a huge chase in the hopes of getting some back as NCLs.

If wild lions can do it, I'm 100% okay with it in game. I figure that lions are accustomed to it.

I inbreed a lot in game since it's cheaper than trying to find a stud to breed with outside of the pride, i only do that if they have a mark i want or a mutation (piebald) i would like to go for.
I also do the inbreeding for certain marks and looks, i had a few lions that were identical to my king which i thought was really fun and just went with.
That and before i had a king who gave me beautiful cubs every time so i just kept breeding to him, i do that now still with my side king.

I try not to inbreed, unless it seems like the kind of thing my king would like. . .

I was just looking up whether there were any in game consequences to inbreeding bc I'm gonna have to make a decision about this for my own pride soon it seems. Based on that there aren't really any consequences, I don't think it will really matter to me, except that it might matter to others (so maybe making it harder to sell inbred lions??). I didn't pay 16GB to customize my King only to be picky about breeding him :P especially when I want to encourage markings I like within the pride gene pool.. (e.g. I just had a very pretty red cheetah cub, (cheetah marks are one of my faves) and breeding here to my King would lead to more cheetah cubs)

Ethically it makes me squeamish irl, but in the game I just want pretty babs XD and it is much cheaper to not worry w it. :3

Sure I'm not a fan of the whole inbreeding thing, but here it's no big deal. They're lions, it's what lions do. Plus what if someone has a trait like piebald or primal and they want a whole pride like that, and they can't afford to get another primal and new lionesses every time?

Honestly. I’m always curious about what the cubs will be like. I usually inbreed, but sometimes I buy studs. The reason for this is the studs are usually overpriced. Like I’m not paying 300 SB just to get my lioness pregnant when I could have done it myself.
I support inbreeding/inbreds.
And if something happens to them, they aren’t real, their only- ‘a bunch of pixels.’.

I personally don't care, but I try to keep a clean king just so I can get some extra SB from studding him.

Generally if my lions are clean i keep them that way and refuse to inbreed them at any point, but if i receive a dirty lioness then i don't pay attention to who she breeds with because the damage has already been done
