The Story of Ayari's Pride

Day 27 - June 4, 2020

Rahu has given birth to her second litter. The cub is dubbed Ranama. Her glistening gold pelt is of interest to the king. If she is strong enough to survive, she will be a welcome addition to his pride.

His elder daughters, Rahumari and Jibuya, have both completed their training and are turning out to be promising young hunters. Rahumari's first hunting ceremony arrives in a month's time; habit almost has the king thanking Azarasti for a cub's survival. He sneers at the stray thought and snuffs it out. Azarasti has nothing to do with his daughter's strength. This is a pride of his own making.

Perhaps his ally… if that is what the god, Seth, can be called, will also aid in his ambition for power.

Day 28 - June 10, 2020

Matope gave birth to two desirable cubs… well, cubs that may at least fetch a few beetles each. Unfortunately, one of the pair, a cub with a dark, Slate pelt, passed away shortly after birth. The lighter, Maltese cub, survived and will be sold once it is old enough.

In brighter news, Rahumari had her hunter's ceremony and passed with flying colors. She's joined the other hunters officially.

That's fourteen lionesses in his pride now. Inamayari cannot help but be a little proud. He's lost only a handful of lionesses and cubs, and the pride is growing after so much destruction. He must be doing something right, and prides himself on his ability to protect his family.

Day 29 - June 16, 2020

Chui gave birth to her litter in the middle of the night. Inamayari's harsh gaze swept over the pair of cubs and found them lacking. Both cubs fell under his jaws; Chui cannot understand where she failed—where she went wrong. Her next litter will be better, she promises. Inamayari assures her they must be, or it will most certainly be her life on the line.

Uso also gave birth to two cubs. One cub, pelt gold, was killed. The other, however, was spared. The young female has been dubbed Usoma.

Day 30 - June 24, 2020

Inamayari has never felt so uncertain for his life before. But the Serpent is dead, and the Vessel of Seth assures him all went well. The two will train together for a while longer yet… but in the mean time, Inamayari's lionesses need tending. Just because these are uncertain times does not mean his lionesses are ignored… or their problems pushed aside.

And there are problems.

Kuruka has failed to bare a single desirable cub in her time with the pride, and Inamayari cannot afford to keep a lioness who cannot bare him an heir. On edge after the recent events, he approaches her brutally and in the face of her pride sisters. Ayani, emotional and heavily pregnant, recognizes the murderous intent in her king's eyes and flees to the safety of the caves… she cannot bare to watch. He lets her go, but notes her cowardice for a later time before he lunges; his long fangs slice through Kuruka's flesh in an instant… she struggles, a gurgling roar the last sound she makes before the life flees from her eyes.

Task finished, the king turns to the rest of his lionesses. Kuruka's blood still paints his fangs red as he speaks, "Fail me, and this is your fate as well."

It is Chui who quails most under the king's words, knowing she has failed him before. Though gentle Rahu offers comfort to her pride sister, it is clear the pride is unsettled. "These are strange times," Rahu whispers. She has known other lionesses to vanish, but never has Inamayari been so openly brutal. "Strange," she repeats, nuzzling Chui.

Day 31 - June 30, 2020
2 years, 7 months into King Inamayari's Reign

[Lore]
A frightful time for the pride. Ayani's reactions were noted, and her litter was a disappointment. A single cub. A failure. She pleaded for her life, but Inamayari is unwilling to show weakness during this time of trial; he is merciless. Ayani, the Hunt Chief, and last survivor of his original pride is dead by his own fangs.

…the king will mourn her loss when he knows he is alone.

But for the sake of his pride, he reveals his fangs and names the next strongest lioness, Rahu, as Hunt Chief.
Rahu. Kind. Gentle. Caring. A lioness above other lionesses? Rahu does not—cannot—understand her new position, but she knows she must now bear the mantle, and does so with grace and poise.

Apedemak thinks like Inamayari. A specific sort of determination and ferocity in his actions… the king sides with his fellow king, intent on seeing just what the Celestial lion plans.

Day 34 - July 21, 2020

Shakateth is… a strange lioness. A follower of the god Seth, she believes in strength and power. …that doesn't stop her from cracking bad jokes at the worst times. Her hunt sisters are getting tired of it; one bad joke and a snicker is all it takes to scare the wildebeest!

"Seriously, Sha!? Can you… not?" Rahu rounds on her newest hunter and shakes her head. "Perhaps hunting it not in the stars for you," she rumbles. "Perhaps you should stick to telling fortunes at the den."

Shakateth shifts her veil and a single, multi-colored eye lands on her leader. "Perhaps. But what fun would that be?"

Meanwhile, back at the den, Mwongo nurses her newborn. A daughter called Mwoyi… she has a powerful physique. Inamayari is more than pleased… this little one takes after him! She will grow long fangs and be far more powerful than her peers. He eagerly awaits the day she begins her training.

…but what if she fails?

No. No, she will surely succeed. She is of his lineage. She cannot fail.

The Rise of Tamrat, the Fall of Inamayari

What happens when Indy performs a sudden, harsh restart.
What can I say? I got bored. A proper, true restart for LioLocke… and I don't want to lose the old lore. Just in case anyone out there is actually following my dribbles. xD I will be making some minor adjustments to my rules in the first post. My intention is to shoot for a gold special base (Probably Goridhe), with a particular set of marks. Haven't hit anything solid. New goals will be to survive with a minimalist pride: no more than five hunters, room for a couple additional lions and cubs, and nothing else. I will have to be choosy or decide how to make exceptions.

[Lore]
"Go…"

The words of the Desert God still echo in his ears. He is not special. His coat is not pretty. It looks cakes in mud, and his mane is still growing back in after a bad bout of mange… but he has been renamed.

"I call you 'Tamrat,'" whispered Azarasti, "a miracle, whose touch will change the lands once part of my kin."

With that blessing, he approached, and with a ferocity he did not know he possessed, Tamrat struck down the mighty lion called Inamayari. The pride disbanded, lionesses fleeing before the should meet the same fate as their king. And those who could not flee? Tamrat remembers the mercy he was shown in the desert and gives them this condition: "When your cubs are born you shall leave this land. You shall remain away from my sight. I will build my own home here. If you remain after, I will kill you."

Day 37, 38 - August 4, 5, 2020

[Lore]
Two lionesses have joined Tamrat's pride. Simisola is the first lioness to come wandering to the border. The second, Sethunya, cast her glistening eyes in Tamrat's direction and seemed to steal his heart. They both join as hunters; at least food will be easier to come by now, and the growth of Tamrat's pride can begin in earnest.

Days 39, 40 - August 11, 12, 2020

[Lore]
The pride is slowly growing. Tamrat feels less pressure to try to bring home his own prey, especially when there are capable lionesses to act for him. In spite of a minor setback—and a new scar—Simisola is a promising hunter, alongside her new pridesister, Sethunya.

Another lioness, her pelt more in line with what Tamrat seeks, also joined the pride. Chidi isn't a particularly… motivated hunter. However, she's willing to pull her weight to keep her place in the pride, even if it puts her at the bottom of the pecking order.

Meanwhile, one of the wanderers gave birth to a son. Tamrat has opted to keep the boy—Tamar—if only because he knows having another male to patrol his growing territory in the future will be a wise decision. Still, if the boy is not passable… Tamrat will do what he has to.

Days 41, 42 - August 18, 19, 2020

Hlengiwe moves with her head held high. Her prudent attention to detail and fastidious nature make her an ideal hunter. The pride welcomes her. Simisola has been in the pride the longest, but seems unsure of the newest lioness. The two talk quietly; Hlengiwe admires Simisola's new scar… and Simi? She finally smiles. Skilled though the new recruit may be, Simisola doesn't have to worry about her place as the pride's best hunter. After all, if she continues to do well, perhaps she will be promoted to Hunt Chief.

Day 43, 44 - August 25, 26, 2020

…it's happening. His pride is actually beginning to grow. A few lionesses have borne cubs, and they have survived! That does not mean they will make it to adulthood, but the fact there's any promise for the future at all has Tamrat's pelt twitching with excitement. Some of the cubs do not merit staying in the pride, but Tamrat thinks perhaps another pride might rehome them… for a price.

In the mean time, he does what he can to monitor the fires and humans too close to his territory. The pride had to abandon the old camp when fires came too close. Tamrat hopes, when the fires are gone, perhaps his pride can return to the caves they know. In the mean time, he fights off humans who come too close and scrounges what food he can to help his lionesses.

A new lioness joined the pride. Head held high and haughty, Hiwot wooed the king. Not the other way around. And anyone who thinks different will have an earful from the young lioness.

Meanwhile, Simisola and Hlengiwe are butting heads over leadership. Hlengiwe is older and wiser, more experienced than Simisola… but young Simi is stronger than her senior, and she knows it. Simisola doesn't even seem eager to be Hunt Chief… and the two fight.

Hlengiwe proves she is stronger and pins the younger lioness with a silencing roar. She will be Chief until someone is able to wrest it from her.

Day 45 - September 1, 2020

The fires have finally died down, leaving scorched earth in their wake. The humans have received Tamrat's message loud and clear… or at least they have not shown up in some time. It seems the difficult times are not over however, and a new plague strikes the land with just as much ferocity as the fires.

Locusts.

Curse the fluttering creatures. Tamrat crushes any he happens to find under paw.

Meanwhile, his pride is nearly at capacity. His hunters are strong, he has a promising son, and several other potential cubs. If his territory can maintain a larger pride, perhaps some of the offspring will stay. Others he points toward the market place, to other prides. They are not his to keep.

Day 46 - September 8, 2020

Hiwot gave birth to her first litter. The firstborn was weak and did not survive the night. The second cub, however, mewls strongly. A survivor. Still, not meant to be one of Tamrat's pride. He deems the cub will go on to live elsewhere when she is old enough. Until then, the child remain under his protection.

Beyond his small pride, worrying signs fall from the sky. Literally.

Omens. Signs. Is this the end? And just when he thinks it cannot get any stranger, he runs into a demon calling itself the Harbinger. The beast is bigger than any lion. Its face reminds Tamrat of a crocodile or a horse. Perhaps it is the vile offspring of such a pairing? Ha. Tamrat gives the beast his reluctant aid. If it means the end of this blasted plague, Tamrat will do whatever he can; he was not given a second lease on life for nothing.

Day 47 - September 9, 2020

[Lore]
The pride is growing. Some of the wandering lionesses' cubs have grown to be healthy and rambunctious… which is good. Definitely good. But the pride lacks a denmother—someone to look after the cubs while the hunters bring home prey. This has resulted in some… difficulties.

Kahina was nearly trampled by migrating buffalo… Hiwot discovered her in the middle of a hunt and had to give up the zebra she'd been pursuing to bring the wandering cub home.

Chizoba, oblivious to the surroundings, chased a butterfly too close to a honey badger. Tamrat didn't learn of the cub's scrape with the vicious animal until much later, when the roughed-up child returned home with a swollen eye.

Tamar, Tamrat's eldest son, at least, has stayed out of trouble and is shaping up well in his training. If it continues well, then at least the king will have an extra set of eyes to help around the territory.
