Day 48 - September 15, 2020

Simisola's first cub died in the night. Her caution—she'd made a nest early and made sure she would be absolutely safe and comfortable—was for naught. The hunter secludes herself as she grieves.

In the midst of dark times, Tamrat can do little to comfort his lioness, and she does not seem eager for his company in any case. "Next time," he assures her quietly, "the cub will survive. It will be stronger." It is not a promise he should make. But he does, and lets her be to herself.

Day 49 - September 22, 2020

[Lore]
Tamar, Kisembo, and Chizoba have been close lately. Tamar is the leader of the small group of cubs, while Kisembo and Chizoba follow eagerly, as if he were the greatest lion they'd ever met in their short lives. Just the other day, the three got into mighty trouble… hence why all three ended up grounded to the dens for the rest of the day. Tamar takes the brunt of the responsibility for leading his friends into a herd of zebras—as a young prince should—and promises it won't happen again.

…if they go on another adventure, he'll just make sure it's not around any equines!

Tamrat is starting to think he needs to find a good denmother. He has hunters, but no one to keep a proper eye on his spawn. Huff. The work of a king is never done.

Day 50 - September 29, 2020

Guess who loves the new Mirage marking!?

+ 1 new scar for Helingwe, when a Wildebeest managed to nick her with its horns. Her hunting party felled the beast quickly after. (Rolled 12. No infection.)
+ 1 new scar for Chidi. She got scuffed up pretty badly hunting… dik diks? What was she even doing!? Helingwe scoffs at her huntress's failure, but lets it slide for now. (Rolled 47. No infection.)
+ 1 lion defeated in explore. + 1 territory space for a total of 13.

Day 52 - October 13, 2020
Missed last week's update, but it was boring, so. Yeah. …actually, I was just really busy. Anywho. This week on Only the Strong!

+ 3 cubs died.
+ 3 cubs born.
+ 1 cub killed.
+ 1 lioness joined the pride.

[Lore]
The pride is growing… but growth does not always equal safety, it seems, and it has become dreadfully apparent the pride is in need of a watchful denmother. Two cubs died.

Chizoba fell from a tree… though outwardly the cub seemed fine, the child passed only a few hours later.

Kahina wandered too far from the hunters' watchful eyes. By the time she was discovered, her carcass was nearly unrecognizable, consumed by hyenas.

Tamar is devastated by the loss of his young friends. Perhaps it is the motivation he needs to become a fine submale and watchful eye beside his father.

One of the lionesses hanging on the outskirts of the pride lands recently notices the troubles. The lioness is gentle as she speaks, and apologizes for being unable to intervene in the events which resulted in the deaths of the youngest cubs. But… she could, perhaps, prevent future accidents. Tamrat accepts her aid, and she keeps a watchful eye on his children and heirs in exchange for her home.

Her name is Hadiya.

One of the lionesses on the outskirts has given birth to a promising son, Miraat. Tamrat acknowledges the boy's legitimacy and accepts the mother into the pride as well. She is a quiet lioness, wary and uncertain, but wise. She acts as the pride's lorekeeper. A shaman. Her name is Anansi.

Day 63 - January 5, 2021

+ Hlengiwe received a scar. (Rolled 4. Infection sets in. 25% chance of failing hunts for the rest of the day.)

+ Defeated in a PvP fight.

Day 64 - January 12, 2021

Food is scarce. A hyena—of all creatures—has offered his aid. Lahayru, he calls himself. Hmph. Well, no matter. Tamrat accepts his help if it means he can feed his cubs and lionesses. Tamar, his eldest son, has finally grown in his mane and helps his father patrol and protect the territory now.

Chidi has given birth to a litter of three cubs… unfortunately one of them died at birth. Another, a horrid little thing… it no longer lives. Tamrat did not tell Chidi what he did with the cub. The surviving cub, a female, is called Cira.

Hlengiwe has also given birth to a cub. The child will survive, though Tamrat doubts the little one will be of much use to the pride. Perhaps another pride will want to take the child in.

Day 65 - January 19, 2021

[Lore]
What… is this? The cub's ears are floppy. Where some lions might think it's endearing, Tamrat sees it for what it is: a hindrance. The child is an abomination, and Tamrat announces the cub shall be killed. His sibling is also killed, leaving but one cub surviving in the litter… and that one Tamrat eyes critically. Perhaps another pride will take it?

Meanwhile, Kisembo has come of age. By the time of her first heat she must best one of the other hunters to gain a permanent place in the pride, or she will be ousted.

The cub, Nkiru, is now a year old. She has disappointed her father, struggling through training, failing to complete it… Tamrat sees to it that she is banished. Such lions have no place here.

Day 66 - January 26, 2021

[Lore]
Kisembo is still fighting to find her place in the pride. She knows if she does not succeed, she will be ousted, outcast, exiled, never to return. She is not strong enough to overcome the hunt chief, even though she is blind in one eye. Of late, Kisembo has noted a sort of distractedness in Simisola… the lioness is unhappy. Strong, yes, but unhappy. Kisembo chooses to confront her on the edge of the pride and challenges Simisola outright for a new place in the main hunting party.

Simisola scoffs, doubtful of the young lioness's ability. "I trained you. I know all your tricks," Simisola says, growling a warning.

"As surely as I know all yours," Kisembo snarls, launching herself at her mentor.

Kisembo manages to strike first, claws flashing for Simisola's face. Her claws meet flesh, and Simisola staggers back. Unlike her younger opponent, Simisola is no stranger to pain. She does not stall as long as Kisembo hopes, and lunges back immediately. She hits Kisembo hard, knocking the smaller, inexperienced lioness off her feet. Simi does not waste time gloating before she lunges again… but Kisembo is faster. Her moment of fear is gone in a fleeting instant, and Kisembo manages to scrabble aside before Simisola's claws can meet her soft underbelly.

Simisola is slower than Kisembo at every turn. Kisembo's attacks are quick a fleeting, akin to small razor cuts next to Simisola's power. Simisola hits like a rhino, however, and every blow she manages to land on Kisembo sends the lioness to the ground. Even so, as Kisembo is sent rolling a third time, she snarls up. "Give up, old lioness! It is time for the young to rise!"

Simisola sneers. "You think me old? I am in my prime. Have you learned nothing? Arrogance will be your downfall."

…from her place on the ground, Kisembo sees her opening and lunges upward. Simisola is not fast enough, and the younger lioness's fangs meet her throat. Kisembo drags her mentor down from beneath. Simisola writhes, claws scraping at Kisembo's face—certain to leave scars—but she cannot break free of Kisembo's fangs.

As the life leaves the hunter, Kisembo's fur bristles. When it is done, she rises, licking the blood from her teeth. Kisembo is victorious, though not unscathed. Simisola has left deep gouges down one side the lioness's face. Still, it is a wound Kisembo will wear with pride… for now she is a fully-fledged huntress, and none will dare question her place. "You call it arrogance, old fool? No. It is not. I know."

+ Kisembo ascends to the rank of hunter.

Day 67 - January 27, 2021

[Lore]
Ufame has grown into adulthood. This would be all well and good if there were room for more than one Advisor in Tamrat's pride. Tamar is proud of his heritage as Tamrat's son. Ufame's father is unknown. In reality, he should not even be part of the pride, as he is an outsider's son. But his mother was well-loved by Tamrat, and perhaps that is what has stayed the king's claws all these years. Now, however, Ufame has a mane and must make a choice. Earn his place in the pride by any means necessary… or leave.

Day 68 - February 2, 2021

[Lore]
There is not room for two submales. King Tamrat has made that exceedingly clear to his son and the interloper, Ufame. If Ufame wishes to keep his place in the pride, then he will have to fight for it. Literally. With this ultimatum in mind, Ufame approaches Tamar with single-minded intent: kill. He succeeds with brutal efficiency, declaring himself the new right-hand lion with a swish of his tail.
