Wine followed Luna towards the camp, pausing for just a moment to glance behind her, though there was nobody there. "I'll do you proud, So Sweet," she whispered to herself.


As soon as the cub started to mewl, Horizon stirred into wakefulness. Years of looking after cubs made her highly sensitive to the sound of their cries. She yawned heavily and dragged herself to her feet, looking around for the cub. Seeing Bastet on her feet, she was suddenly much more awake. "Bastet, what's wrong?" she whispered, making sure not to wake the others.

(I suppose since I have one of your cubs, and you have one of mine, that could somehow be part of the story.)

Bastet looked apologetically at Horizon. She moved closer to her, carrying the little cub till she settled herself next to the piebald.
"I'm afraid I'm not very skilled with cubs" She smiled awkwardly at the broodmother after she laid the cub gently in between her front paws. The squeal had stopped. At least for now.

(Yeah, that might be a little problematic, especially with Raguel. Bastet is supposed to die soon and I don't know how she would be able to have Raquel and Sekhmet in such a short amount of time in between. Unless we make it that they are from the same litter, but that would have to disrupt the entirety of our roleplay right now. It wouldn't make sense age-wise as well. Unless you want to bend the reality of the game to your will in the story, then by all means go for it. Btw if you have any female cubs with at least 4 visible markings, you can send them to me and I can put them up on my auction. I can gift you the SB I get from them after they are sold if you want)

Horizon smiled back, relaxing. "Goodness, you scared me," she said with laughter in her voice. "I thought something had happened to the poor thing. Don't worry, it gets more natural as time goes on." She looked down at the baby and lowered her head to give it a light lick on the head. "If you have a broodmother in your pride, I'm sure she'll be able to help you."

(Agh, time! Well, I'm fine with Midsummer Beauty having been born at any point if you feel like you need. I don't know what to do about Sekhmet and Raquel, though. And thanks for the offer, but I actually don't sell cubs, I just tree them. If you ever want any called Tre, to keep or sell, you're welcome to them.)

Bastet's smile faltered slightly, as she turned her head to the sky where the full moon hang.

"Can I tell you something?" She asked Horizon, still looking at the moon. She felt tempted to tell her the secret she had been holding for a long while. To say that her fate was sealed, and there was nothing to be done about that.

(I feel like she should've been born after the apocalypse at my pride. Ophelia could take care of her then, and maybe Midsummer could take her place after she dies. As for the cubs, I think there are several cubs in your pride that are real beauties, and to me it would be a shame for them to not end up at a proper home, and instead used as fodder for example. I could rehome them through an auction or giveaway chat. Also Valor has made a discord server for our clan. I haven't had the chance to see it yet, but I thought I'd let you know )

Horizon looked at Bastet curiously, and she nodded quietly. "You can tell me anything, Bastet," she said in a hushed voice. Even if she hadn't known this lioness for vey long, she felt like she could trust her. And like she wanted to Bastet to feel like she could trust Horizon.

(That's fine with me! You're free to have my cubs if you want, sure. I typically chase the ones under 5 markings and tree the rest, but I can give them all to you if you want. And yay, glad we have a discord server!)

"I'm... I'm not sure I can be a good mother" Bastet started, changing her mind about spilling the beans to Horizon. She didn't want her to worry. It wasn't needed and she had other things to deal with, like the dark times ahead for her pride.

(I mostly take ones above 4 markings to auction and tree the ones under that. If you don't want to keep some cubs you've bred, feel free to send them over to me and I'll do my best to rehome them. Who knows, maybe a cub from you will steal my heart and I decide to keep it. Do you have any plans on making a discord account? It would be helpful to have you on the server. I also think it might be wise to make Valor an admin for our clan. They have admin experience and I think they would be a great asset, since they made the discord server. I'll also will most likely host a clan raffle soon. Maybe tomorrow, since today I'm really tired.)

Horizon nodded seriously, watching Bastet's eyes. She believed her, totally and completely, and it didn't even cross her mind that Bastet might not be telling her what she had originally intended. "I think we're all afraid of that the first time," she said gently. "You can't fully understand what it means to create life until you see that cub, so small and vulnerable, and you wish more than anything that nothing bad will ever happen to them, that they'll stay like that forever. Nothing has ever been more yours, and it's terrifying. Things you never wanted to fix about yourself, suddenly you wonder what they could mean for this new life. But trust me, because I know: if you truly love your cub, and do what you do because you care about them, they will go through life knowing they're loved. That's the very best thing you can do for them."

(Alright, I'll send you any five markings or above, and you can do what you will with them! I did recently make a discord account, yes, so that'll be fine. I can definitely add Valor as an admin, and I think a clan raffle is a good idea. Hopefully the discord will help get people more active, so we'll see about that.)

Bastet smiled a fake smile at Horizon, as if she was truly reassured by her words. She wasn't though. Something different poked her mind at that moment. It wasn't that she wasn't worried about being a mom, but there was also something else. A different fact that scared her more than anything right then and there. She realized, she didn't know how much time she had left with her cub. The thought of leaving her dear Sekhmet alone in the world made her feel incredible dread. Still, she didn't say anything, and looked at the sky, where the sun had already began to rise.

Horizon watched Bastet out of the corner of her eyes. She wasn't sure, but it felt like maybe there's was something more to Bastet's fear. Maybe about Bastet's own mother, or the father, whoever he was. But Horizon didn't pry, and instead sat herself next to Bastet, watching the sun bleeding pale purple into the dark sky. She rarely had the chance to stay up and watch the sun setting, and she let its calm beauty wash over her.

(I spoke to Valor, and they added me. I'll be listed as Corax Noir. I don't really know anything about discord, so I don't think I'll have much useful feedback to give. By the way, thanks for sending out the clan message. I forgot to tell everyone Valor was a new admin.)

Both of them watched the sunrise together for a moment, before Bastet laid her head on Horizon's shoulder unexpectandly.
"Thank you for your help. I'm glad you were there with me while Sekhmet was being born." She said, lifting her head before leaning in to lick her little cub on the forehead.

(Great! And don't worry about the feedback. Im not a discord person myself, so I left a lot of it to Valor who seems to know more aout all this than me. I hope we can get some funds from the clan raffle )

Horizon didn't stir as Bastet laid her head on her shoulder. She continued looking at the sunrise, though she did tilt her head slightly to brush against Bastet's. "I'm glad I was wish you too," she said warmly. "It's been quite a day, hasn't it? And now a new day is dawning." She glanced down at Sekhmet, sighing contentedly.

Bastet looked up at Horizon, her gaze filled with worry. Her demeanor changed instantly from fear and anxiety to stern and serious in a matter of seconds.
"I spoke to Monarch. I don't think I managed to convince him of anything though. I'm deeply sorry." She said, with a hint of pity in her voice. "Know that if you ever need shelter or help in anything, my pride is there for you. Our leaders may not officially be allies, but the members of the prides are." She smiled reassuringly.

Horizon shook her head, deflating slightly. "Just the fact that you got him to listen to you is quite remarkable," she said. "No matter how he feels, you're welcome here anytime. And I thank you for your offer. There are plenty here who wouldn't call Monarch our true leader to begin with. I know your pride works differently, but here our leader doesn't hold quite as much power. Even if our alliance isn't official, us lionesses here will always honor it."

Bastet smiled sadly. She felt Monarch only listened to what she had to say because she forced him to. Still, she made no mention of the spell she used on him. It wasn't safe for Horizon to know about that. She already knew too much about Bastet's abilities anyway.
"Thank you for your hospitality. Be sure that we shall return the favor if you ever need it." The alabaster piebald bowed her head slightly.

There was a long, drawn-out yawn as Jewel woke up. The sun had risen, and so did the patches lioness.
"Good morning," Her mother said before licking her forehead. Jewel laid on top of her, much like she used to when she was a cub. She looked around and remembered that she wasn't in her pride's territory. In the distance she saw Bastet and Horizon having a conversation.

"I'm glad to have run into you," said Horizon warmly. "Perhaps it was our fate to meet each other at just the right time. Things feel like they're getting worse these days, but I promise you my pride will always have your back, and I hope your pride will have ours."

With the light chatter around them, Turquoise and Prairie stirred again. This time Prairie blinked open her white eyes, looking lazily at Jewel and her mother. "Good morning," she said to them quietly, giving a sleepy half-smile. Turquoise rolled over and continued her slumber. Prairie followed Jewel's gaze to Horizon and Bastet, watching them curiously.
