Lioden has updated Fire Escape to remove some of the parallax scrolling (huzzah!) so I'm sure they'll do it for March's Poacher Chase also when the time comes!

So this is about the 'Poacher Chase' and it's sister 'Fire Escape'.
I don't think this was really a problem with the 'Fire Escape' version (but since it's not available right now I can't really compare) but with the current 'Poacher Chase' game I, and a couple of friends, are experiencing headaches, nausea, and dizziness after finishing the game regardless of how long we're able to play it.

I think this is happening because the obstacles you have to jump over aren't incredibly noticeable. They blend into the background too much making the player strain their eyes while they play to be able to see the objects. I think a way to fix this is to either make the faint glow around each object more noticeable in color and maybe even a bit larger. Or to change the brightness or overall color of the object so it's not so tan/brown on a tan/brown background.

I think the reason this wasn't such a problem in the 'Fire Escape' game since, if I remember correctly xD, the background in that one was overall black/red with the objects being the tan/brown with a more noticeable glow.

After playing it again with all the suggestions in mind I've realized it's not really the lack of noticeability in the obstacles but rather the parallax of the game. The multiple elements of the foreground and background that move at different speeds are causing some people to experience headaches/vertigo/dizziness/sickness/etc after the 1k mark. Though none of the effects so far are long lasting they're still not great!

A possible way to fix this could be just to have a static image for both the foreground and background, so the only thing moving in the game would be the lion and the obstacles it jumps over. This wouldn't affect gameplay as things will still speed up as you progress and the jumping over obstacles mechanic won't change at all.

Another suggestion would be instead of having all parallaxing stop, have less! Such as maybe JUST ONE foreground, the area the lion runs on, and background element instead of the current 2 elements of foreground, the ground the lion runs on, and 4 elements in the background all moving at different speeds at the same time (I don't think those numbers are accurate but you get the point XD)

I know not everyone is experiencing these side-effects so I'm not suggesting to change the entire game this way, but instead have an option to toggle the parallax on or off before you start the game! And maybe have it remember your settings so if you die and want to restart you don't have to choose it every time.

Let me know what you guys think about this game and the suggestion of the change! I'd love to hear from both supporters and nonsupporters! <3

I find its not motion sickness but the level of detail in the background. I even defocused my eyes to allow me to avoid it, but I got to 200 points before I started getting really dizzy. I really think its the high level of detail in the grass and how our eyes are trying to focus on a moving terrain with multiple levels of depth.

If the made the background basic and only had grass in the foreground, it might make it easier on the eyes.

I don't have very sensitive eyes normally things like this don't bother me but I noticed as soon as I hit around 3K I actually started feeling nauseous and my eyes were a bit screwy for a few minutes after I finished the game. I hope the changes listed can help with this ^-^ Support.

After playing again today, while keeping all these suggestions in mind, it really does look like it's the number of things moving all at once trying to create that 'depth' in the game that's making me woozy and not the obstacles in the game. I'm editing my original post to reflect this and suggesting an option to make a static foreground and background!

I definetly can relate. its not so much strain for me as just my eyes... refuse to focus on the game, which makes playing really difficult

I never experience motion sickness and I rarely get eye strain, but Poacher Chase made my eyes hurt after playing for only a few minutes. I don't know how anyone gets high scores without getting a throbbing headache. The moving background makes it impossible for your eyes to focus on anything if you want to look ahead of your lion, which you kind of have to do in order to play the game. That's what causes the eye strain for some people. Honestly the game is kinda a recipe for disaster when it comes to eye strain and motion sickness.

I don't get motion sickness from the game, but it's definitely an eye strain. My eyes keep unfocusing/blurring and that ends up hurting my vision when I play. I'm glad to know it wasn't just me experiencing this. Support!

I have never been affected by games like this before- ever- yet Poacher Chase makes my Eyes so weird ...( I can’t describe it as sick but it makes it almost impossible to focus on anything after playing it after maybe an hour? I don’t know if it’s the color scheme or what but please fix it somehow!

I actually very much support this, after getting past about the 2-3k mark everything starts to blur together for me,even my vision becomes hard to focus. This makes me extremely dizzy,to the point of nausea and even causing my vertigo to act up. Its a really fun game, and I really want to play it to earn the Rhino Beetles, but this makes it extremely difficult to play even though the affects don't usually last more than 10 minutes for me. Also another thing that oddly happens is if I play the game too long then if I look up or at my screen, things start to slowly shift like in the game for about a good minute and I have to close my eyes to settle this. If I don't it makes me that much more dizzy. I also can't focus vision wise if I play it for more than 10 minutes, usually have to relax or lay down. Its why I haven't been able to play it much or get very far. I really would like this to be fixed somehow so that I and others can enjoy it.

Support!
The game gives me motion sickness as well.

Since I get motion sickness from quite a lot of games I didn't think much of it. I'm used to either ignorig/fighting my way through it or not playing the games (depending on how bad it is). Or in some cases, playing for 20min, lying down for 30 min and then playing for 20min again (yep, I have actually done this on a few games I really, really wanted to complete!).

Motion sickness from games is annoying and takes away from the fun. So yes, please, this, a thousand times this!

This game is headache inducing to people who say don't play it if you get motion sick/headaches from it. I will say this I'm not going to stop playing a game that gives event currency. I know for fact this is a solvable issue and can probably be fixed after the month is over but the point is, I cannot make it past 7k+ because the game gets too fast and puts eyestrain on people. A game should not cause extreme bouts of eyestrain within a matter of just a few minutes. If it does that then there is something wrong with the game. If the majority is reporting eyestrain dizzyness and motion sickness it is the game not the people playing it. So I am supporting this.

Yeah, leaving it as is will just lead to people hurting themselves for RB :(

I think that a combination of changing the pace the background/foreground scrolls at and modifying the glow around the obstacles/RB would make the game easier to play, and much less headache-inducing. At some point I missed 5 RB in a row and ran into an obstacle because I just couldn't get my eyes to focus properly on the game long enough to notice them.
