King Hawk met Russet at the Trading Center. Her unusual appearance immediately caught his eye. After a quick chat, the king decided to buy her out of her pride and welcome into his own.
Russet wasn't thrilled with her new king, but she knew she would enjoy living in his lands, so she didn't complain. In her new pride, she was treated with suspicion. Some lionesses tried to be nice, but she knew that they were wary of her.
There was also a couple of lionesses who openly despised Russet. However, she soon realized that they were just jealous of her.
Soul On Fire and
Lavender Mist were known as the king's greatest followers, they just didn't like the new competition. They obeyed his every command, were always careful not to anger him, and defended his decisions as if they were their cubs. Yeah, cubs... King Hawk wasn't a fan of those. He rarely kept any in his pride. Most of his children were abandoned as soon as they turned 5 months, some were kept for a little longer, but in the end almost every cub was kicked out. When Russet joined the pride, there were only three cubs chosen by the king -
Marble,
Briar and
Buttercup.
Even if Russet knew it was cruel in some way, she also had to admit that the king was right. There was no need to keep cubs that weren't worth it. It would be a waste of food, time and space.
When Russet's first litter was born, it was judged as unworthy of staying in the pride. And Russet agreed, neither her son nor daughter stood out. It was better for them and for everyone else to get rid of them as soon as possible.
When Hawk was overthrown, Russet was just dissapointed in him. She made the effort of supporting him, and he turned out to be weaker than all of the cubs he rejected.
Russet quickly accepted the new king. He was nothing like Hawk and had completely different ideas, but Russet knew that he'll be a good ruler.
