Star Log
Date: April 3rd, 2537
Mission: To scout for new worlds
Number of Occupants: 100 Crew
Log Author: James Grant
Months ago, we launched into space on a scouting mission for a new world to plant Earth residents on. Our own planet is dying, and we need to find a location to transfer to. The goal is to locate a planet similar to our own world. So far, we've located nothing. There have been stars, planets and suns and moons, but nothing of suitable living. The mission has grown desperate, and I fear that my sister and I will never find a place to truly call home. Will we be lost out here in space forever, I wonder? Will we ever see home? Supplies, at this time, are in a good status, but how long will they last? The past several days, we've had many emergencies, especially in the engineering room. The Core has been failing for some time now, and the causes are currently unknown. To go back to Earth would be a death sentence for us all. We must find a place to land our ship... I just hope the captain knows what he's doing....

That was the last Star Log that James would get to put in. Just as he was finishing it, the alarms began to ring, and something exploded upon the ship. It was jarring, and had him falling out of his seat with a grunt. The man shook his head a bit, stood to his feet. His sister, he had to find his sister. Over the intercoms, one could hear the captain speaking.

"This is your Captain speaking. An evacuation order has been sent out. Calmly make your way to the pods, and abandon the ship. I repeat, an evacuation order has been sent out."

Paling a bit, James was quick to sprint down the hall to the Women's quarters. He was screaming, shouting, for his sister. Where was she...? Little did they know that this would be a new start for them....

"What? ... Why?" James frowned a bit at that. Surely fire worked the same here as back home, did it not? It was a curious question, now that she brought it up, in all honesty. He wondered what it would do. "I...well,I suppose we can find out from these trees... Might be able to still break a few branches off..."

The sky above was definitely not blue... It was more of a green-ish color, like some of the seas back on Earth could be. It was interesting, really, and very beautiful. And the clouds themselves were tinted a very light purple, lilac or lavender in color depending upon the red sun. It was so strange here, but beautiful... "Addy, I...are you having breathing difficulties?" He couldn't tell if it was because she got hurt, or if it was because of the actual air.

"Yeah, I don't know if its from the new air, or maybe just the crash. I know I have a bruised rib or two. Well, I was just wondering, because, you know it's a different atmosphere and the things here are going to be made up of different compounds." She winced and shook her head. She looked up at the sky then back at James. "Next time you have hiccups, instead of thinking of a green sky and a purple elephant, you'll have to think of a blue sky and a grey elephant." It wasn't the best joke she'd ever come up with, it wasn't even a joke, but still it made her smile.
Adlaide then looked seriously at James. "Let's get your arm taken care of real quick. Then we can worry about whether fire works here or not." She set the stuff she was holding down and shook out a blanket, just to make sure no glass was hidden in its folds. "Does it need to be set?" She asked tipping her head to one side, she was no doctor, but she read an awful lot, meaning she knew a lot. Setting bones would be easy, or that's how it sounded in the medical books she'd read. Ripping the blanket into strips she tied one strip into a sling but kept the other strips to bind the bone tightly in place.
Her brows furrowed as another thought came to mind then glanced about quickly. "I can check the First Aid kit for pain killer, if the bone needs to be set chances are you might need it." She winced at the thought, then bit her lip. Her brother was injured, and normally she'd relied on him to protect her. Adlaide shook her hair from her face and took a deep painful breath.

A brow rose at her question, he soon glancing down at his arm. It was painfully obvious, at least to him, that it needed to be set. It was broken in at least one place, but that was all he could tell. If it was broken elsewhere, he'd not a clue. "It'll need to be set...and save the pain killers. We may need them later on. I can deal with this, sis." He gave a weak smile at her, though, doing his best to reassure her. It was his main arm that had been busted, so using it was out of the question. DIdn't mean he wouldn't protect his sister to the best of his abilities. He'd just need to learn differently, was all. Perhaps this was a good a time as any to figure out how to become right handed....

"Well...let's get this over with. Can't leave it looking this way forever..."

"Psh, did you just say looking?" She asked, eyes flickering. "I don't think its the appearance of your arm you should be worried about." As she spoke she had taken his arm and was situating the bone. It made her wince as she slid the bone into place and she knew the pain must be excruciating. She'd never done anything like it before, so it made her extremely nervous that she might do it wrong. But when she looked at his arm, it looked more normal, except for the swelling.
Adlaide looped his arm through the sling and pushed it over his head. "We'll need to find water and set up some sort of shelter. It's a good thing I had a ginormous breakfast this morning." She was rambling now, her words fading into indefinable muttering. It was obvious Adlaide was beyond worried, now she was scared, and her fear was starting to get the best of her. Her heart rate increased and the sound of blood pounding in her ears was extremely loud against all the other sounds.

He winced, but bit his cheek to keep from making a sound. There was no need to make Adlaide worried more than what she obviously was. At this rate, though? He knew she was frightened. So was he, but he couldn't show it... If he did, she'd be even more so. "Addy, sissy.... You stay here. I'll go find water. See if you can find a way to make a suitable splint. This thing will work, but it won't keep the bone set..." he sighed softly. "I promise, I'll be right back, okay?" He always kept them, which was the good thing, so there was hardly reason for her to doubt otherwise... Then again, he could be wrong about that since they were on a new planet.

But, as they were speaking, the nearby pod finally exploded, causing the man to tuck his sister into him despite obvious pains. Good thing they'd gotten away from it... That alone would have killed them.

"No way am" Her words were cut off by the pod explosion, she was glad for her brother's bravery. However, she held deep doubts about going separate ways for even a few long minutes. Heat billowed from the burning pod, peaking from behind James' arm she could see the flames bright and golden against the sky. "Fire works." She muttered softly then looked up at her brother.
Her heart quaked for a long moment, she couldn't let her brother get hurt anymore. She'd have to pull her weight some. Setting her jaw she grabbed his shoulder. "No, I'll fix you up a splint then I'll go find water. You're hurt and can't defend yourself very well. We both know that you don't know how to do much with your right arm. I'm not hurt too badly and..." She shook her head and picked up the long pole she'd grabbed from the pod along with the shorter ones. "this could work as a weapon." It felt easy in her two hands, she gripped it tightly and stared up into her brother's face with a resolute and grim expression. "I'm older anyways, I need to pull my own weight."
Her eyes said it all, she wasn't going to let James say no. If her firm words didn't do it, she would not hesitate to resort to pouting and begging. The silvery glitter in her nearly dark hues was bright and firm set, worry could be seen within the deeper shadows, but she was going to try and help out more.

James usually couldn't say no to her pouting and begging. Usually... He was hesitant to answer, but he gave a resigned sigh, rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh... Alright, but you have to come back within ten minutes... It looks like it may be getting dark, and I think the only thing that's going to keep us safe tonight is that..." He nodded towards the pod, the fire that was burning brightly. Little did they know, though, that it had definitely garnered them some attention. Unwanted, yes, but attention regardless. It'd be some time before it arrived, since the scouting party was on horseback, but it'd be there by nightfall, at the very latest. THat was in a few hours.

"Good, and you know I wouldn't leave for any longer than that. Now sit and hold your arm out best you can." She sniffed and gathered the strips of material and the two short metal poles. Her eyes glanced up at the sky and she tipped her head to one side. "It's going to be a beautiful sun set. Weird, but beautiful I think." This new place was so strange, so new. It put so many unusual thoughts in her head, made her want to ask so many questions.
She blinked away the numerous thoughts which came to mind. She needed to focus, so instead she started to yammer about ways to find water on earth. The patterns in the earth, the different types of soil, the best places and such to find it, and so on. Mostly she rambled on under her breath, but it was helpful to go over the things she knew. All that time she'd spent reading could actually turn out to be helpful.
She felt slightly uneasy about something, but couldn't quite place it. It wasn't unusual to feel uneasy about something like this. They were in a completely new world, somewhere where they didn't know hardly anything. She blinked and glanced towards the horizon before dropping to sit under the shade of a fir like tree.

James did as asked, wincing a bit as he did so. THe sling was wonderful, and when she got the splint in place, it being nice and tight, there was a strange relief, despite the tingling and numbness he currently suffered from. It was then that the exhaustion seemed to hit him. He was just so tired, feeling so weak. Was that even possible? The young man was in very fit shape, to be quite honest. He wasn't overly muscular, but it was easy to tell he was not a man to mess with. James could be quite intimidating if he wanted to be.

Perhaps that was why most folks, once they realized Adlaide was his sister, stopped trying to flirt with her.... The thought made him smile a little, his eyes soon closing. He was just downright exhausted from the whole ordeal.

Adlaide smiled and nodded. He need to sleep, and perhaps it would keep him from worrying while she went off to find water. She stood slowly and stepped off, picking up the heavy pole and meandering off, staring at the ground. Water wouldn't be that hard to find, would it? They weren't in the middle of a desert or anything crazy like that. Maybe the trees had water in their trunks, it was only a shame she didn't have anything sharp.
She sighed and moved faster, the sooner she got water the sooner she and James would be reunited and set to last through the night. She looked forwards to seeing the sky after the sun had set, she wondered what the stars looked like from here. After a few minutes it wasn't long before she heard the gurgling of a stream.
She joyfully trotted towards it then sighed. The best she would be able to do for now was to fill up a small jug from the kit with water. It wouldn't be much, but it'd be enough for now. Besides, if they stuck around here, they would be able to take frequent trips to the water. Dipping it into the stream she filled it taking a sip she smiled then stood.
Adlaide froze for a long second, thinking she heard steps from somewhere beyond the brush. She narrowed her eyes then moved swiftly back towards James, the water held firmly in one hand the long metal pole in the other.
Approaching where she'd left him she found herself loosening significantly, she gave a soft sigh and sat down, the pole still in her hands. She was tired also, so tired she would be happy to fall asleep right then and there, but she knew that was a bad idea. Someone should keep watch.

Someone should, yes. That would be an amazing idea, really, because James was fast asleep. They were being watched, yes, by curious onlookers. A pair of beady eyes stared at them from the shadows. They were just watching, and then the eyes disappeared. It watched, still, and called to its nearby companion that had followed Addy. They needed to flee. The smell of human was on the horizon, and humans did not take kindly to their ilk....

Werewolves and vampire were not welcome. They were revered with fear and superstition. They were seen as evil, but that was far from truth. The wolf folk would draw back, though. They'd guard these two, for now. Something was interesting about them.... For sure.

(Forgive any typos. I'm on my phone now.)

Adlaide felt unnerved by something, the hair on the back of her neck was on end. She gripped the pole tightly in her hands and stood so that she might not fall asleep herself. The sky was beginning to turn colors now with the setting of the sun, the clouds were turning from the pale lilac to a deep rich purple. The green blue sky looked as though it were falling into the depths of a dark turquoise sea fringed with dark colored stones. She stood staring up at it for a long while as the darkness started slowly seeping over the land. It was gorgeous, the stars shone elegantly like diamonds studded in rich colored leather, she smiled at the thought then sighed. Her lungs didn't hurt as badly when she breathed, partly because they were growing used to the hard air, partly because her ribs weren't bruised to badly.
She grabbed a blanket and lay it over James' still body, noticing a firm chill in the air as a shiver ran over her skin. She scooped the other blanket and wrapped it about herself, leaning against the trunk of a tree while staring up into the strange and beautiful sky.
Adlaide wasn't aware of the heavy steps far off in the brush, or the rustling of creatures moving about in the brush beyond their hiding place. All her attention was on the sky, wondering what gases made up the atmosphere to make it that glorious color.

It was indeed beautiful. The wolf-folk were gone by now though, and it was then that the heavy steps of horse hooves could be heard upon the hardened earth. The head scout was watching the odd contraption smoking and burning, eyes narrowed beneath her hood. She spoke in a strange language to her companions. This had to be some sort of witchcraft. What on earth was this thing?

She then told the party to start searching for the survivors. The prints and blood showed it. They were close by, and they'd have a lot too answer for....

Adlaide was very nearly nodding off now, and she decided to try and wake James up. He'd gotten to sleep for a while now, and she knew it wouldn't be any good if they both dropped off at the same time. She kneeled at his side and shook him gently. "Hey, James wake up." Strangely enough she felt for some reason, the need to keep her voice low and at a whisper. "James." She grew tense thinking she heard something off in the direction of the pod.
Now with vigor she shook her brother by the shoulders. "James... somethings here." She said a little louder now. Adlaide jumped to her feet fear about what was out there reviving all her senses but not her tired body. She stood half crouched the pole in her hands. She didn't know what good it'd be, but she knew that it might very well work as a decent weapon if it came to a fight.
Of course she didn't know if whatever out there was hostile, but it was better to be safe rather than sorry. She held her breath for a long second, listening with every fiber of her being.

James groaned at that, winced a bit. He stared up at his sister, blurry eyed and trying to figure out what on earth was going on. It wasn't long after that that they'd hear the voices. The man managed to stagger to his feet then, leaning against the tree. "Adlaide...what is it? Can you see?" he asked softly. He couldn't, but he heard horses, which meant people. Perhaps they could get help? Or...maybe they were hostile. He couldn't let Addy get hurt...

"We should go..." This was dangerous, very dangerous. He jumped a bit when he heard the snap of a twig from behind him, though. What had that been? What else was out here?
