Star Log
Date: April 3rd, 2537
Mission: To scout for new worlds
Number of Occupants: 100 Crew
Log Author: James Grant
Months ago, we launched into space on a scouting mission for a new world to plant Earth residents on. Our own planet is dying, and we need to find a location to transfer to. The goal is to locate a planet similar to our own world. So far, we've located nothing. There have been stars, planets and suns and moons, but nothing of suitable living. The mission has grown desperate, and I fear that my sister and I will never find a place to truly call home. Will we be lost out here in space forever, I wonder? Will we ever see home? Supplies, at this time, are in a good status, but how long will they last? The past several days, we've had many emergencies, especially in the engineering room. The Core has been failing for some time now, and the causes are currently unknown. To go back to Earth would be a death sentence for us all. We must find a place to land our ship... I just hope the captain knows what he's doing....

That was the last Star Log that James would get to put in. Just as he was finishing it, the alarms began to ring, and something exploded upon the ship. It was jarring, and had him falling out of his seat with a grunt. The man shook his head a bit, stood to his feet. His sister, he had to find his sister. Over the intercoms, one could hear the captain speaking.

"This is your Captain speaking. An evacuation order has been sent out. Calmly make your way to the pods, and abandon the ship. I repeat, an evacuation order has been sent out."

Paling a bit, James was quick to sprint down the hall to the Women's quarters. He was screaming, shouting, for his sister. Where was she...? Little did they know that this would be a new start for them....

"Ow, ow!" James snapped. "Will you...! Ow! Not good," he then admitted. "Can't understand a word of what this fellow is saying, but I don't think he likes me moving." Not that he was trying to do that, but it was almost impossible not to move. This hurt so much! Chances were, he'd snapped something else if he'd landed wrong. Who knew at this current moment.

The person tending to him wasn't exactly like a gentle giant.... That much was clear, but the hooded figure was at least trying. That was what mattered most at this current time.

She winced this time and was nearly tempted to bite her lip. Instead she folded her arms protectively over her midsection. "I'm afraid I don't much understand what this person is saying either, but I'd suggest you try and stay still." Adlaide looked worriedly at his arm. "It might hurt less if you don't squirm." She really hoped it would heal quickly, but with what had happened to it she doubted it. He'd broken it, fallen on it... and who knew what was going to happen once they arrived at the castle.
Thinking of it, she turned to the elvish person. "Are we going to wait here for the rest of them?" She asked, nodding towards the direction they had come. A shiver rolled slowly down her spine as she thought back in time and pondered their fates. The mental pictures weren't exactly the most encouraging and she quickly forbade them from entering her mind ever again.

(Sorry, chilling with a friend atm. :) )

"Right now? No... We'll move on, just like commanded. There's an outpost we can wait for them at, and get proper herbs and healing medicines for your brother." Until then? They wouldn't be doing to much, to be honest. There truly wasn't a whole lot that they could do.... A soft sigh was given, the man rubbing the back of his neck. This was such a mess, truly. It wasn't something that they had expected to happen. It was unexpected. This was just a whole mess, and how would he go about explaining it to the King...? especially if his adopted daughter had died...

Adlaide gave the slightest nod, though her thoughts had left the present and were far in the depths of a book she had once read. Her eyes slipped closed and for a few seconds she was holding her breath. The pages of the book flickered through her head, chapter after chapter, word after word. The memory of the smell, and feel reminded her of still other books. She was glad to have the photogenic memory, as she settled comfortably near the horses searching the pages in her head for answers.
She had several answers which came to mind after a few moments of silence. Remembering then she had a mirror in her pocket she removed it and cradled it in her hand. She noticed that in the saddle bags that the pipes that she had used in the brace, she took one and quickly made a simple telescope from the mirror and a shard of glass. "Do you guys have these things? They help to see far away." She held it to her eye, searching the horizon she spotted several dark shapes moving in the far distance. She couldn't make out what they were exactly but she spotted for legs and long flowing tails. Horses. Maybe with riders.

"Ah... You mean a spy glass." The elvish man soon pulled one out himself, and looked towards where Adlaide's gaze rested. He made it focus a bit, eyes narrowing a little. Four hours and only two riders... "Mishani is with them. When she arrives, we must flee once more. We can't stay here, lest we get found by another band of night walkers..."

That was just bad news, and with both the siblings bleeding from their previous wreck, they had no choice but to move on. If they did not, they'd all end up dead, or wish they were....

Adlaide looked at the crude spy glass she had made, it might come in handy later, she realized and tucked it away in one of her pockets. It wasn't the best news in the world, hearing that only four riders were coming. She was almost happy though because Mishani was there and alive. The last thing they needed was the blame for the King's adopted daughter's death.
She glanced at James eyes narrowing slightly. "Are you going to be ready to ride?" Adlaide was wishing she had been able to keep the First Aid kit, she at least could have kept some of the items stuffed in her pockets. She frowned to herself she could have brought it and helped James out immensely. She inwardly scolded herself, chastising her thoughtless reaction of tossing the kit aside.

James forced a smile at that. "Not much of a choice, I don't think... I'll be fine, Addy." He was right in that fact... There wasn't much choice to have, honestly. It was he ride, or he get left behind to die. That wasn't about to happen, either. The other riders were still a ways off, so the elvish man had the brother and sister get on the horses. They could go at a trot for now. At this current point in time, there was no need to run a death race... They had to resupply at the outpost, and spread news to other messengers that the night walkers had returned.... This was going to upset the entire kingdom, to a degree. They hadn't been seen for several years...

"We'll let the other riders catch up," stated the elvish man. "But once they are here, we will need to ride again. Swiftly."

Adlaide nearly grumbled at that. The first part of the ride the other day had been enjoyable, to some extent, but after riding for what seemed like forever... now it was beginning to be a thing to groan about. Her legs ached, muscles she didn't quite know she even had were burning as she walked and now remounted the horse.
Trot, she hoped it wasn't the hard trot of some horses, and even hoped it might be like the smooth and flowing gait of some of the Earthly horses. However, looking at the conformation she doubted they could foxtrot, rack, tolt, or any of the other smooth running walk like gaits. They did however look as though they might be able to do a flying pace, a gait would could reach forty two miles per hour and was much smoother than a gallop, canter or trot.
She began to mindlessly stroke the thick double coat of the horse, the fur was almost coarse but in a silky way. The stocky animals reminded her almost of the Icelandic horse of Earth, they were far taller than the Icelandics, but they were brutish and almost handsome animals. She tipped her head to one side, pausing mid stroke as the similarities came to mind. Funnily enough, being able to compare this horse like creature to one of Earth's was comforting.

James noted her look, and reached up to squeeze her hand gently. "We'll survive this, sissy... Don't worry, okay...?" Be it he was right or not, he didn't know. James could only honestly hope he was right in this matter. A soft sigh was given, and he soon, with aid, got upon the horse from earlier. He was not looking forward to this at all... The riding hadn't helped his arm, and the fall had broken another bone since he'd caught himself with it. Falling off the left side of a horse had not been fun...

"Let's go," the man then stated. Gracefully, the elvish man got up behind Adlaide, and had the horse trot along. They couldn't stay still for to long...

She met James' eyes for a brief moment and tried to smile. It was a decent smile but Adlaide figured it must look far more like a grimace than a smile. "Alright, brother..." She hoped he was right, some part of her knew they would survive, or perhaps just hoped to the extent she actually believed it. She grabbed the horse's mane hands twisting the dark colored coarse hair around her fingers.
Far off you could still see the pod, a smoking and bright little dot in a grove of trees. She could hardly believe they hadn't traveled that far, then again she was used to the incredible speed of the horrible ship. Maybe the terrible experience might do her some good after all, if it didn't kill her that was. She might learn to have some serious patience, Adlaide would have to learn how to defend herself, and several other little things. She was almost glad she had the book knowledge, but wished now for a book to dig into and bury herself in. It would make things almost feel normal. She wondered if they even had books like she was used to, perhaps they might but they would probably only be history.
History, she was beginning to wish she had read more books on history. Knowing a little bit about the feudal systems or the Dark Ages might be extremely helpful in this case. She knew James would be of little help, he rarely picked up a book, and when he did it often wasn't to read it.

No, usually not... He did enjoy a good book, yes, but he hadn't picked one up since he'd been a child. For now, though, the horses plodded onward. There was no other option to go, and the beasts seemed a little nervous and anxious. Something was still out there that had them on their wits end. The elvish man glanced towards his companion, spoke ot him in the language that was foreign to the siblings. It was best to pick up the pace, and hope that Mishani and her other rider would make it to them, to the outpost, before another attack occurred....

They couldn't face something like that, especially with this strange new threat on the rise... The locals didn't know what it was, but it wasn't demons.

The horses picked up the pace, seemingly happily as well. The canter was very rolling, giving Adlaide the feeling as though she were on a boat. She'd never been on a boat though and the rolling, lumbering gait made her sick to her stomach.
As of that moment, she could hardly wait to get to the castle. She was very nearly happy to see it's ominous form rising up in the distance, she cared not what happened once they got there, but she was going to dare to assume it would be safe. She could also see a small tower far closer than the castle, which was very quickly rising. They would be able to wait for the survivors there and then move on with a little bigger forces.

(Sorry for the shorter and shorter posts, I'm currently also working on a project.)

(No worries! :) )

that they would. It was the outpost that had been spoken of earlier. This was where they'd wait for the rest of the now small band... The elvish man ordered his companion to get James inside, and he told Adlaide to follow them. He'd take care of the horses and get them settled in for a logn rest. Running like that wasn't good on them, but it had been a necessity. Sure, the beasts could run for days on end, but given the chance, scouts and riders would nto do that.

"Get some rest," the man told Adlaide. "You will need it. We'll leave when the others catch up to us, more likely than not... We can get food and supplies here, as well, in case you and your brother need anything."

Food, the mention of the wood brought her stomach roaring to life. The former sickness dissipated and it was then she remembered they hadn't eaten since yesterday. Maybe even the day before yesterday, she could hardly organize her memories from the ship. Either way, she was hungry, and she suspected that James was too.
"Food would be great..." She looked at James, they could perhaps get a few more medical supplies, perhaps they had something that might help his pain. Food would also help, not only would it take his mind off of the broken arm, it'd also be helpful in giving them both an energy boost. She happily fallowed them inside then took a sniff of the somewhat musty air. It didn't exactly smell bad, it actually reminded her of a library she'd been to as a very young child.
Rest would be nice also, she hadn't slept in what felt like forever. She was probably only awake because of the point of exhaustion she had reached. Being tired like that was somewhat funny, sometimes you just get to a point you are so tired you can't sleep.

So it seemed, yes. James carefully moved and sat himself down upon one of the nearby cots. It wasn't the most comfortable place in the world, but he wasn't about to complain either. This was just what they needed, and it'd be good to rest, even if only for a few short hours. The kind stranger went about making an odd drink, but it smelled vaguely familiar. Tea? That's what it smelled like... His head tilted a small bit at this, and he wondered if these folks were a little more closely related to, well, humans. Perhaps so, perhaps not... It was hard to tell. Their way of life, their culture, was just so different.

"Here," the elvish man then called to Adlaide. "Give this to your brother, and rub it on his arm. It'll help with the pain and swelling until we can see a healer."
