Lioden has updated Fire Escape to remove some of the parallax scrolling (huzzah!) so I'm sure they'll do it for March's Poacher Chase also when the time comes!

So this is about the 'Poacher Chase' and it's sister 'Fire Escape'.
I don't think this was really a problem with the 'Fire Escape' version (but since it's not available right now I can't really compare) but with the current 'Poacher Chase' game I, and a couple of friends, are experiencing headaches, nausea, and dizziness after finishing the game regardless of how long we're able to play it.

I think this is happening because the obstacles you have to jump over aren't incredibly noticeable. They blend into the background too much making the player strain their eyes while they play to be able to see the objects. I think a way to fix this is to either make the faint glow around each object more noticeable in color and maybe even a bit larger. Or to change the brightness or overall color of the object so it's not so tan/brown on a tan/brown background.

I think the reason this wasn't such a problem in the 'Fire Escape' game since, if I remember correctly xD, the background in that one was overall black/red with the objects being the tan/brown with a more noticeable glow.

After playing it again with all the suggestions in mind I've realized it's not really the lack of noticeability in the obstacles but rather the parallax of the game. The multiple elements of the foreground and background that move at different speeds are causing some people to experience headaches/vertigo/dizziness/sickness/etc after the 1k mark. Though none of the effects so far are long lasting they're still not great!

A possible way to fix this could be just to have a static image for both the foreground and background, so the only thing moving in the game would be the lion and the obstacles it jumps over. This wouldn't affect gameplay as things will still speed up as you progress and the jumping over obstacles mechanic won't change at all.

Another suggestion would be instead of having all parallaxing stop, have less! Such as maybe JUST ONE foreground, the area the lion runs on, and background element instead of the current 2 elements of foreground, the ground the lion runs on, and 4 elements in the background all moving at different speeds at the same time (I don't think those numbers are accurate but you get the point XD)

I know not everyone is experiencing these side-effects so I'm not suggesting to change the entire game this way, but instead have an option to toggle the parallax on or off before you start the game! And maybe have it remember your settings so if you die and want to restart you don't have to choose it every time.

Let me know what you guys think about this game and the suggestion of the change! I'd love to hear from both supporters and nonsupporters! <3

This suggestion has 305 supports and 10 NO supports.

@Maiq: I'm not sure if the screen size has anything to do with it, but I could be wrong 0:
Like for example, scrolling games are super common on the phone and I'm sure a bunch of people play those who are also getting a funk with this game.
I personally am playing on a large screen and the game window fits pretty nicely in the middle of it. I don't have to squint or get my face close to the monitor in order to play.

As a PC gamer I'm normally used to a lot of the movement-type screen stuff but I noticed this game does make me kinda dizzy/headachy too. Just hurts the eyes

Based on everyone's responses I added some more suggestions that might help the vertigo/sickness effect! Thank you, everyone, for your input!

Theres a couple issues that make that game so hard to look at. A higher contrast would help, making the background/foreground stuff scroll slower would help, even changing the field of view may help. I've played plenty of online minigames on other websites, and this is the only one that blurs my vision after just a short game. I've never had an issue with a speedy side scroller

I played it last night, and after a game, my vision was completely warped and swimming. Didn't have any lasting affects, but yeah, was a bit trippy.

I had a similar experience to Torquil. I didn't exactly feel nauseous but I felt blurry and weird for a little bit.

Support. It's not making me sick but my eyes hurt from straining to see the obstacles. (And I'm only playing like 3 minutes tops!) I think it's because the colors of everything (the lion, the obstacles, the background) are too similar. Almost like they're muted/dull. And yes I'm very near-sighted but I'm wearing glasses and I haven't had this issue on other scrolling games. Tried zooming in but that didn't help either, just made me dizzy.

If you get sick from it, simply don't play it. From what I saw as the game goes for longer periods of time it gets faster, increasing in difficulty. I also play on a 24" monitor so who knows, maybe what @Maiq the Smilus said may be correct.
I have to play on windowed mode for most games (League of legends, overwatch) because large/fullscreen fast paced games do make me dizzy. So, that's always something to consider.

> If you get sick from it, simply don't play it.

I don't think that's a fair conclusion, since it does offer event currency and many people are affected. Especially since the previous version of the game did not cause this.

I've tried both full screen and super small, issue still persists. I do believe it's the lack of contrast between the background, lion, and objectives.

I wasn't aware it offered event currency, Just thought I was another game honestly. I can see why you're concerned now.

Anyways, Minimizing the screen and adjusting your contrast and brightness of your monitor could help. The beetles themselves can be pretty hard to see, especially since they blend in so well with the background. Possibly add a neutral colored highlight to it. That's the only real change I believe could be made to help you guys.

I'd have to say, it really affects my eyes as well. When I get my score up past 5,000, my eyes start to hurt a lot And I noticed after I play it that they feel weird for a while afterward, maybe you could call it strained, I'm not sure. I basically just chalked all of this up to how tired I am atm, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was because of the game. What's hard on me is the obstacle that's a bunch of sticks poking up out of the ground - that one doesn't seem to have the same amount of outline as the other obstacles, making it blend in almost completely with the background.
I also don't recall experiencing this with Fire Escape, either. Totally makes sense that it could be the background colors.
