A time where vampire myths are commonly believed, and suspicion of the undead is high.
You reside in the town of Rivercrest, which seems like just another town, but when night falls it becomes far more sinister.

You are a vampire, and now it's time you have to choose whether you'll be swayed by your immortal bloodlust and feast to your undead heart's content, either manipulating your way to the top, using your wits to avoid being caught, isolating from the mortals and only interacting when it's time to feed, or simply slaughtering all those who oppose you. Or, you could try your best to shun who you are, and feed as little as possible, or only on consenting humans. But without feeding, you'll soon begin to find your immortality dwindling.
But, it's not just human hunters you have to worry about, werewolves will stop at nothing to rip you to shreds, if you're not careful, the toxic rays of dawn could soon turn you to mere ashes.

Notes on Vampirism.
A vampire in this roleplay is practically undead, they have no heartbeat, no breathing, and are cold to the touch apart from after feeding on human blood. The longer a vampire goes without feeding, the more they begin to look like a corpse, and the colder they become. If they go too long without feeding, a vampire will enter a 'bloodstarved' rage, and attack anything living on sight. Animal blood can be drank, but it does not reverse the effects of starvation or the inevitable blood rage, merely holds back the cravings for a day or so. A fed vampire may look like your average human, however when intense emotions are shown, or when feeding, their irises will turn crimson and their pupils constrict into catlike slits, and of course their fangs will be visible.

All vampires are immortal in the aspect that they cannot die from illness or aging, however they can still be killed by sunlight, decapitation, total destruction of the head, removal of the heart, or destruction of the heart. Any other injuries will regenerate depending on how recently they fed, a starved vampire will struggle to heal even the smallest injuries, but a fully gorged vampire could regenerate entire limbs in an hour or so.

The abilities a vampire innately has is, enhanced reflexes, speed, strength, enhanced senses, and night vision.

To turn a human into a vampire, they need to be completely exsanguinated and then made to drink a vampire's blood, it's not a process without risks however, as it can fail and either the human will stay dead, or they will become a mindless ghoul that has to be put down.

Notes on Lycanthropy.
Werewolves can vary drastically, but your average werewolf in their 'beast' form is around 7 foot tall, and can come in many different colours, but grey is the most common. In their human form, a werewolf will be harder to identify than a vampire, however a few traits such as more 'wolf-like' mannerisms, more muscle mass than your average human, and for those with more than human senses, the smell of dog, can be identify a Lycanthrope.

[no worries, i was pretty busy today anyway]

Ambrose rubbed his arms with his hands, thinking. He hadn't realized that sleep wasn't important anymore. He supposed that, after turning; he'd kept up habits that carried even when he switched fully to nocturnal life.

"You don't have to come," he said suddenly, "I'll go." It was unlike him to speak up like this, especially to Estrid - usually he'd disagree privately but hold his tongue - but this felt different. He remembered his early days, being confused and hungry and scared, and knew that he didn't want Anabel to experience the same.

She didn't speak for a second, her movements languid like that of a predator. "Do as you please. But you'd be wise to heed caution. Chances are, she will not want to cooperate." Estrid said coolly, a demeanour of uninterested apathy still plastered on her face as she turned away. Walter was standing there in silent thought, but shot you a worried glance nonetheless.

"I.. I'll stay here. Good luck, Ambrose." He said painfully, you could see it almost physically pained him to 'give up' on Anabel, but logically he knew nothing could be really done, but you could see the weight of his supposed cowardice was absolutely soul crushing for him, but yet he stood by.

Ambrose breathed deeply as Estrid walked off. Turning to Walter, he just nodded, accepting his decision. He then turned and left the cave, footsteps heavy but soon fading from the other two vampires' ears.

He felt annoyed by Estrid's disapproval and seemingly lack of care about Anabel. Did she even remember what it was like to be young? To be confused instead of demanding respect? He huffed loudly and crossed his arms as he walked. He was heading towards the beach, planning to try and follow Anabel's footsteps from the sand to the trees.

The sky was lightening still. Dusky blue clouds hovered overhead, and he was glad for the forest, even if it wouldn't provide as much shelter as he wanted. He reached the beach and was relieved to find shallow imprints, hurrying to follow them into the treeline - his legs ached but he pushed himself to keep going.

Around you was an open woodland, only small trees could grow in the sandy soil around here, wiry dense dune grass pricked at your legs as you ran. The first rays of dawn were soon going to wash over the land, threatening to purge any of the undead that ventured from their own 'realm' of the shadows into the purest morning light. The tracks faded off, with still no sign of the fledgling vampire.

Birds began to chirp and sing in their glorious morning choir, as an odd sense of longing filled you. This is no longer your realm, you belong only to the cold and darkness of eternity, a damned creature of the penumbra, the Undead. And your time before the sun's rays wash over the land is drawing to a close.

Ambrose gulped nervously at the birdsong. Part of him wanted to stay outside - he hadn't seen the sun or felt it on his skin in so long. He shook his head, and moved quicker, vampiric instincts taking over again. This was no time for nostalgia.

Realizing he had no more time to wander, he searched for the first shadow he saw, and ended up squeezing inside a hollow tree. The trunk was cracked in half, but sealed above where it fed into many dead branches. The space was tight - his shoulders pushed against the wood and he had to bend his knees to fit - but it felt safer than being outside.

He breathed frantically. A neighbouring tree's leaves shaded the ground right outside, but beyond that, the clouds had broken to allow sunlight in. Ambrose squinted even against this dim shine. Covering his eyes with a hand, he realized that he'd have maybe five feet of safety until the shadows moved and he could dart into another shady spot. I wish Walter was here, he thought desperately as he tried to come up with a course of action.

(yeah sure ^^ sorry i was gone, had to take a brief hiatus to deal with some stuff)

The day passed longer than any Ambrose could remember. At one point, he managed to dash into the shadow of another tree, and then under a thicket of bushes, where he could crouch to the ground. By the time the sun set, his limbs ached and he was clammy with exhaustion. He was growing hungry, too.

When the land was finally dark, he dragged himself up, sighing heavily and shocked that he was still alive (or as alive as a vampire could be). He leaned against a magnolia tree and stretched his legs until the joints popped. Looking at his surroundings, he mustered up any vigor he had left and began walking, hoping beyond hope that Anabel had survived the sun's piercing rays.

Footsteps thundered from behind you, frantic and getting closer and closer with extreme speed.
"Ambrose! You're okay!" The figure behind you sighed in relief, it was Walter. The blonde vampire's eyes shone with worry still, however.

"Have you seen any signs of Anabel?" Walter asked, his face concerned and brow tightly furrowed.

Ambrose whipped around at the sound of footsteps, briefly terrified that he'd be attacked, but he was relieved to hear Walter. It felt good to see a familiar face after the long day.

"I havent," he sighed heavily, "I was following her trail last night but she could be anywhere. I have no clue if she even found shelter." He seemed downtrodden.

"I haven't seen any signs of her either.." His voice grew more and more quiet until it trailed off, his bright blue eyes full of sorrow and regret. "We have to keep on moving, I'm sorry." His frown fell even tighter as he said those words, looking into your eyes. "Forgive me for this." Walter said quietly, his voice beginning to break even more, his eyes fixed onto the ground so whether he was directly speaking to you or not wasn't entirely clear.

Ambrose looked at Walter, then away, furrowing his brows. He crossed his arms. "That's not... we can't just abandon her. She doesn't even know how to fight." He'd come to like Anabel's company. He could hardly bear the idea of moving on, with no idea whether she was alive or not. "What if she comes back to the cave and we're gone?"

Walter stared with eyes glittering full of sorrow, he expelled a shaky breath. "Ambrose.. She's probably already gone. If we delay, think of what would happen when the werewolves find the location of other settlements, if they're unprepared, many more would die." His thin pale lips were pulled tight into a frown.

He thought for a few moments. Slowly, horror fell across his face, and he hugged his arms tighter. "Okay," he said, "We can go. Maybe she'll be fine." He seemed unwilling to fully accept the reality of this situation, still believing beyond hope that Anabel was safe.

Ambrose began walking away without waiting for his friend's response. He tracked the land back to the beach silently, eyes dark with sadness. Above him, the sky was flecked with early stars.

Walter let out a shaky sigh, walking back to the cave silently, the sounds of the night's creatures seemed to ring out all around you, bats chirping in the gloom turned into a raucous cacophany with the wind howling and the waves angrily crashing against the rocks.

As you made your way back into the cave, you noticed Estrid pacing, her own face in a small frown. She locked eyes with her firstborn son, who shook his head despondently. A moment of silence was shared, before Estrid turned stony once more. "Right, we have to move. We should have just enough time to make it to Dewhurst before sunrise."

Ambrose stopped at the cave entrance. The walk had given him more time to think, and with every step he wanted to turn around, to continue the search - by now, annoyance was coursing through him.

He didn't understand how little Estrid seemed to care for the other vampire. Then again, she had met Anabel by nearly killing her... maybe some part of her felt guilty. Or maybe she just didn't want to be slowed down. Either way, to Ambrose she seemed heartless.

He supposed it was too late now. No use voicing his opinion when they were about to go. "Then let's get going," he muttered, figuring he could at least try to think about something other than Anabel's likely death.
