A time where vampire myths are commonly believed, and suspicion of the undead is high.
You reside in the town of Rivercrest, which seems like just another town, but when night falls it becomes far more sinister.

You are a vampire, and now it's time you have to choose whether you'll be swayed by your immortal bloodlust and feast to your undead heart's content, either manipulating your way to the top, using your wits to avoid being caught, isolating from the mortals and only interacting when it's time to feed, or simply slaughtering all those who oppose you. Or, you could try your best to shun who you are, and feed as little as possible, or only on consenting humans. But without feeding, you'll soon begin to find your immortality dwindling.
But, it's not just human hunters you have to worry about, werewolves will stop at nothing to rip you to shreds, if you're not careful, the toxic rays of dawn could soon turn you to mere ashes.

Notes on Vampirism.
A vampire in this roleplay is practically undead, they have no heartbeat, no breathing, and are cold to the touch apart from after feeding on human blood. The longer a vampire goes without feeding, the more they begin to look like a corpse, and the colder they become. If they go too long without feeding, a vampire will enter a 'bloodstarved' rage, and attack anything living on sight. Animal blood can be drank, but it does not reverse the effects of starvation or the inevitable blood rage, merely holds back the cravings for a day or so. A fed vampire may look like your average human, however when intense emotions are shown, or when feeding, their irises will turn crimson and their pupils constrict into catlike slits, and of course their fangs will be visible.

All vampires are immortal in the aspect that they cannot die from illness or aging, however they can still be killed by sunlight, decapitation, total destruction of the head, removal of the heart, or destruction of the heart. Any other injuries will regenerate depending on how recently they fed, a starved vampire will struggle to heal even the smallest injuries, but a fully gorged vampire could regenerate entire limbs in an hour or so.

The abilities a vampire innately has is, enhanced reflexes, speed, strength, enhanced senses, and night vision.

To turn a human into a vampire, they need to be completely exsanguinated and then made to drink a vampire's blood, it's not a process without risks however, as it can fail and either the human will stay dead, or they will become a mindless ghoul that has to be put down.

Notes on Lycanthropy.
Werewolves can vary drastically, but your average werewolf in their 'beast' form is around 7 foot tall, and can come in many different colours, but grey is the most common. In their human form, a werewolf will be harder to identify than a vampire, however a few traits such as more 'wolf-like' mannerisms, more muscle mass than your average human, and for those with more than human senses, the smell of dog, can be identify a Lycanthrope.

Ambrose gulped awkwardly at her response. He wasn't used to seeing someone so openly threaten a stranger. He felt even more unnerved as she continued to speak.

"I was always told they were," he defended himself against Walter, then turned back to Estrid. "Where exactly? Not around here, surely?" Werewolves were bad news for him. His whole life, even as a mortal, he'd been taught they were gone... he didn't even know how to identify one or protect himself in a fight. He felt suddenly very vulnerable.

"I have not heard any reports of werewolves in these parts. Mainly in the Woodlands further southward from here. Still, it would be wise for you two to keep your guard up. The foolish creatures may be dull and sluggish in comparison to us, they can still overwhelm a lone vampire." Estrid turned towards you, that same bored acknowledge in her eyes. "Especially an untrained fledgling like you." Then her gaze hardened again to a glare. "If anything, it's the groups of young vampires they're targeting. Like they're trying to draw out the elders to do something." She growled harshly, her cold fury burning in her eyes as she spoke of them, but she still held onto her stoic composure.

"Damn." Ambrose's hands twitched and he fiddled with his fingers. Silence stretched between them for a few moments, and he glanced between Walter and Estrid, as though urging them to say something.

"What do we do if we see one?" he asked suddenly. If he was being targeted, he'd feel better knowing what to do.

"If possible, you kill it. Just don't be a fool about it. If you can ambush one on it's own, even a fledgling could snap a lycan's throat with ease if they get the first move." Estrid sighed, while Walter hesitated for a moment before replying sorrowfully. "Is there no other way? Can we not come to some kind of.. Truce?" He questioned, his soft blue eyes looked strangely dull and distant.

Estrid gave a small look of anger, but it was soon suppressed by surprising softness. "If there was any other option, I would have done it before. They lost any chances of a truce long ago." She growled bitterly.

While the thought of killing startled him, Ambrose supposed that self-defense was good enough of an excuse. He'd need to practice, though, if he really wanted to feel safe... feeding on a sleeping human was easy enough, but he doubted he was strong enough to win a fight.

Estrid's reply to the truce idea unnerved him. He got the notion something had happened between her and werewolves, but he really didn't want to ask.

"Is there a way to tell who's a werewolf and who isn't?" his voice was quiet now. He hoped it wasn't a stupid question.

Estrid sighed, clearly expecting that question. "The smell should be the easiest way to tell, however it could still just be a mortal who's been tending to their hounds. Excessive body hair is another, less obvious one. Of course, you cannot tell just from that, but it can help you come to a conclusion. Werewolves in their 'human' form are oft rather muscular, even the young or elderly unlike in humans. And lastly, wolfish behaviours, the baring of teeth, sniffing, even growling, or any other strange behaviour of the sort are commonplace."

"You do know how to fight, do you not?" She said sternly, her emerald eyes boring deep into yours with a disinterested dullness, which earnt a teasing glance from Walter. "Not every vampire is a hardened warrior like you, Estrid." He said with a facade of humour, but you could sense there was something more underneath the simple jest.

Ambrose took in the information with wide eyes, nodding along to her words. He did his best to secure it in his mind - smell, body hair, muscular, wolfish behavior. Good.

He fidgeted again when she questioned him. "Well..." he glanced at Walter, "Only self-defense, but I'm not great at it. I try not to fight if I don't have to."

Estrid gave an exasperated sigh. "A werewolf won't give you a chance to negotiate. They'd have ripped you to shreds by the time you open your mouth." The elder vampire growled, that facade of coolness slipping again as you see genuine anger flare in her voice.

Walter put a calming hand on her shoulder, which she shrugged off in discomfort. Which earned a small frown from the blonde curly haired man. He then lit up again, with a cheeky grin. "How about you teach Ambrose some self defense?" He asked her, which earnt a scoff from Estrid. "Teach some little fledgling? No chance "

Walter sighed, his eyes growing sobered from the joking into something more serious. "If it's as bad as you say it is, Estrid. You'll need all our kind capable and able to protect theirself."

She mulled over it for a couple seconds, before letting out a tired sigh. "Fine, I will give the whelp some basic combat lessons." She turned to you. "Try anything foolish, and you're dust." Estrid glared straight into you, her fangs poking out from her mouth in a sneer before backing off again.

Ambrose shrank back the moment Estrid spoke. He sat with hunched shoulders while Walter calmed her down. He'd really prefer to learn from someone else, anybody else, but it seemed like she was his only option. He drew a deep breath and straightened up.

"I'd love for you to teach me," he said in a forced voice, managing a smile. He then glanced at Walter, as though begging the man to join them - a friendly face would help him feel more at ease.

Walter frowned, a somewhat distant look on his face. "I really need to clean around the Inn, I'll catch you again tomorrow, Ambrose. And-" he turned to Estrid. "Don't break him too much." He smiled before walking back upstairs.

Estrid turned to you, all former hints of humour gone. "Right, follow me." She said sharply, giving no time to reply before she started to walk out the door, you noticed just how languid and smooth her every move was, but she looked like she could burst into an attack before you could even blink.

"Tomorrow. Alright." That was just fantastic. Ambrose watched Walter walk away, feeling a strange pit form in his stomach, before turning back to Estrid. He hurried to follow her out of the inn.

All he could think about as they walked was his earlier attempt at bravery. Maybe he should've just listened to Estrid and left town... but, then again, she was probably right. He couldn't survive on his own if werewolves were returning. He sighed and resigned himself to battle training.

Estrid swerved off into an alley next to the Inn, walking into the open grassland behind it. A few trees speckled the area, the leaves tensely rustling in the breeze. She turned around to face you, her steely gaze still the same uncaring glare.

"Right, firstly I want to get an idea of how hard you can hit. Try and hit this tree with all your strength. Do not worry about pain, you will heal." She ordered, and before you could even react she punched straight into the tree, bark splintering and denting as the tree violently jolted in the impact. Her knuckles bled and were ripped raw, yet infront of your eyes they knitted back together, leaving not a scar.

He followed her behind the inn and took a deep breath of the night air. His eyes darted back-and-forth, suddenly wary of being outside due to her warnings, but found comfort in the soft cricket-song hanging around them. He paused to listen when she started speaking.

Ambrose jerked back when she punched the bark, but he couldn't help being impressed. He took a deep breath and shook out his hands to get ready. Then he drew back, squeezed his eyes shut, and slammed his fist into the wood as hard he could... it hardly shook the trunk.

Ambrose inhaled sharply and rubbed his fist with his other hand. His skin split a little, but soon it was healing itself, and after a few shaky breaths it didn't ache anymore.

"Well, atleast you can take orders. That was less for how much damage you could do, but more a test of will." She sighed, before taking her place opposite you. "Right, come at me. This first time, I will not block. Our main strength is finesse and speed, you will always want to end a battle as quickly as it has started, either by killing an opponent or disabling them. Use that to your advantage." Her eyes locked onto you, searching for any twitch of muscle or movement as she tensed into a defensive stance with effortless practice.

Ambrose blinked and shook out his hand as the last of the pain dissipated. He was glad it hadn't been a strength test. He was a little nervous about going at her, considering the fact she was obviously more fit then him, but this part didn't look optional.

He tensed his muscles, then lunged forward. He locked one leg around her right knee, trying to pull her onto the ground - in the same motion, he aimed a bite at her neck, where in a normal opponent he'd attempt to crush the windpipe. Instead, he ended up with his teeth barely into her skin, fearing her retaliation if he actually bit her.
