A time where vampire myths are commonly believed, and suspicion of the undead is high.
You reside in the town of Rivercrest, which seems like just another town, but when night falls it becomes far more sinister.

You are a vampire, and now it's time you have to choose whether you'll be swayed by your immortal bloodlust and feast to your undead heart's content, either manipulating your way to the top, using your wits to avoid being caught, isolating from the mortals and only interacting when it's time to feed, or simply slaughtering all those who oppose you. Or, you could try your best to shun who you are, and feed as little as possible, or only on consenting humans. But without feeding, you'll soon begin to find your immortality dwindling.
But, it's not just human hunters you have to worry about, werewolves will stop at nothing to rip you to shreds, if you're not careful, the toxic rays of dawn could soon turn you to mere ashes.

Notes on Vampirism.
A vampire in this roleplay is practically undead, they have no heartbeat, no breathing, and are cold to the touch apart from after feeding on human blood. The longer a vampire goes without feeding, the more they begin to look like a corpse, and the colder they become. If they go too long without feeding, a vampire will enter a 'bloodstarved' rage, and attack anything living on sight. Animal blood can be drank, but it does not reverse the effects of starvation or the inevitable blood rage, merely holds back the cravings for a day or so. A fed vampire may look like your average human, however when intense emotions are shown, or when feeding, their irises will turn crimson and their pupils constrict into catlike slits, and of course their fangs will be visible.

All vampires are immortal in the aspect that they cannot die from illness or aging, however they can still be killed by sunlight, decapitation, total destruction of the head, removal of the heart, or destruction of the heart. Any other injuries will regenerate depending on how recently they fed, a starved vampire will struggle to heal even the smallest injuries, but a fully gorged vampire could regenerate entire limbs in an hour or so.

The abilities a vampire innately has is, enhanced reflexes, speed, strength, enhanced senses, and night vision.

To turn a human into a vampire, they need to be completely exsanguinated and then made to drink a vampire's blood, it's not a process without risks however, as it can fail and either the human will stay dead, or they will become a mindless ghoul that has to be put down.

Notes on Lycanthropy.
Werewolves can vary drastically, but your average werewolf in their 'beast' form is around 7 foot tall, and can come in many different colours, but grey is the most common. In their human form, a werewolf will be harder to identify than a vampire, however a few traits such as more 'wolf-like' mannerisms, more muscle mass than your average human, and for those with more than human senses, the smell of dog, can be identify a Lycanthrope.

Estrid gave a distasteful glare, but said nothing of it. "Getting some relief." She growled lowly, but the crimson in her eyes faded slowly with a sigh. "Well, atleast it wasn't anything serious. She said, her voice returning to her usual tone, wiping a splatter of blood off of her cheek.

"Go straight back to Walter. Let me drink in peace." The ancient vampire ordered with a snarl, her eyes darting towards movement outside the Tavern, licking her fangs predatorily.

Ambrose was put on edge by her callousness. How much does she plan to eat? He dipped his head at the order, but turned to slip into his house first - retrieving a knife, he returned and locked his door, then hurried back up the road.

He was relieved to arrive at the inn. He hid the knife in his bag as he entered. The room wasn't very full, but he stuck close to the wall, looking for Walter.

Walter was sitting by the fire, a large brown bag slung on his side. As you entered, he turned around instantly, looking somewhat more himself than before. "Ambrose, good to see you're all packed." He said with approval, giving a small smile. "Estrid's.. Been a while. Did you see any sign of her out there?" His voice ladened with concern as he noticed your on edge demeanour.

"..Did something happen?" He asked cautiously, his tone gentle and soothing as he beckoned you to sit next to him.

Ambrose looked around, then sat down beside Walter. He ran a hand through his hair before answering. "I... saw her. She was covered in blood." He looked troubled, and stared at the fire, glad to be inside.

(by the way, sorry if i have weird reply hours - i'm in the process of moving rn)

Walter gave a sorrowful sigh but didn't seem shocked. "I'm guessing it wasn't her own." He frowned, putting a cautious hand on your shoulder. "She.. Feeds to forget. Even if only for a temporary release. I'm sure you've felt it before, that rush of power and pleasure after feeding well. I do not agree with her doing this, it makes us no better than monsters. But- I understand why. 800 years is a long time." Walter said with no anger in his tone, just pure pity.

(That's okay! Take as much time as you need. ^^)

Ambrose's eyes were wide as his friend explained. He knew the feeling that Walter was referring to, but usually he felt so awkward feeding that the notion of enjoying it wouldn't even cross his mind. He supposed that, after 800 years, Estrid didn't have the same moral reprecussions.

"Is she normally out long?" he wasn't sure what answer he wanted. He didn't like Estrid being out there, sure, but he didn't neccessarily want to be near her, either.

"No, she usually isn't. I- I should go and see. ..And sort out some of the damage if I can." He sighed, getting up to walk out the Inn. "Would you like to come with me?" He asked politely, his unnaturally bright blue eyes soft and concerned.

He stayed seated for a moment, then stood, joining Walter. "Sure." His voice was low, almost hidden by the crackling of the fire. He was quiet as they left the inn, messing with the strap of his bag. All he could think about was her ferocity during their training session - was she like that to victims? He knew people in Rivercrest, and while they weren't good friends, the thought of that happening to them left a bad taste in his mouth.

As soon as you stepped out, a sense of unease drifted over you, which Walter also seemed to notice as his body tensed. The smell of blood was strong in the air, metallic and sweet. The blonde haired man wrinkled his nose in disgust as the stench, biting his lip fretfully but said nothing.

Walking out onto the cobbled road, you noticed a woman, or what was left of her. Laying broken on the ground in a heap, drained of all life and colour, staring with glazed eyes to the sky. Walter knelt down to check for a pulse, but as expected, naught could be found. Giving a saddened but almost tired sigh, he closed her eyes, giving a silent prayer.

Ambrose tensed the moment they left the inn. He froze completely when they came across the body. He was no stranger to blood, sure, but he hadn't seen a truly dead person in a long time - it startled him so much that he clutched at the strap of his bag and seemed unable to move.

"My god," he muttered to himself, "What's wrong with her?" His eyes were huge and frightened. The most he'd ever done to someone was feed from them, and he was always careful about it, so he wouldn't cause too much harm. This felt senseless.

Walter shook his head wordlessly and kept walking, but however he put a gentle hand on your shoulder, soothingly rubbing your weary shoulder. "There's nothing we can do for her now. Come on, let's go. Before Estrid can do anymore damage." He said with such a tired and exhausted expression, his face just deadpan and serene, but in a demeanor you knew all too well, he wasn't okay but he was trying to be strong.

Ahead, you saw a flash of red hair and pale skin, that feeling of unease grew far, far stronger as you noticed a crumpled figure in their grasp. Then, she let go, and a pair of crimson, hellish burning eyes glared towards you, a fearful yet hypnotic quality radiated off of her. Such raw power, so much more than any mortal. In a blink, before even your eyes could focus, she was infront to you. Tall, lithe, with long wicked fangs sticking out, Walter was not afraid, but you could clearly see he was very tense and on edge.

"Estrid, what the hell is all this about? I understand you're upset, I understand you need to feed. But this is just unnecessary and barbaric. These people had homes, dreams, families!" He growled, his own eyes turning bright red and slitted. It earnt a sigh from Estrid.

"Oh Walter.. You never did grow out of your little fondness for mortals." The elder vampire said with almost a tint of real compassion or sadness, however she hardened her tone. "But this is more important than any backwater little town. These people? Their lives are so short, so meaningless. If we're to survive this, the entirety of our kind. Some half starved dazed vampires will be of no use to anyone. It's a necessary evil." She ended with a snap, her voice was so velvet soft yet eerie.

You notice the woman she was feeding off of was still barely alive, a low moan escaping from their lips.

Ambrose followed Walter with stiff legs. It took him a while to take his gaze from the corpse. Upon seeing Estrid, he reached one hand into his bag, ready to grab the knife if it came to that - not that he was sure it'd even stop her.

He stood somewhat-awkwardly as Walter confronted her. He felt offended by her distaste for the town's inhabitants. He hadn't lived in Rivercrest much longer than a year, but it was like a home, somewhere he wanted to stay as long as he could. Slaughtering the people in it seemed less than necessary.

He was shocked to see that Estrid's victim wasn't dead. Slowly, he crept to the side, trying to edge around the angry vampire without her noticing; maybe he could save her still.

Walter gave an exasperated sigh, his eyes fuming, his own lips barely containing two razor sharp fangs. "Oh, so all human lives are meaningless? What about mine when I was a mortal? What about my husband's life? What about Charlotte's?" He growled, not shouting but a low growl you wouldn't have even thought possible from the normally kind and sweet man.

At the name 'Charlotte' Estrid's expression turned grave, the tension in the air was palpable and heavy. The red in Estrid's eyes died down, seemingly sobering from the blood high, her hands shaking fiercely with rage, but she walked away without saying a word. Walter huffed but just stared at the ground.

Noticing you leaning over the dying woman, he gazed at you with sad, mournful eyes, looking more guilty than anything. "I'm sorry, but there's nothing more we can do for her. She's lost far too much blood.." He said cautiously, seemingly avoiding the obvious answer.

He crouched over the lady as they argued. He wondered briefly who Charlotte was, then decided it didn't matter. Instead, he looked down at the woman, worried - she stared upwards, not seeming to even notice his presence. A wound on her neck was rapidly staining his clothes.

When Estrid left, he looked up at Walter. "I saw her two days ago," he mumbled, "At the store." He looked back down at the woman, who's eyes had closed. She wasn't moving anymore. "Should we bury her?" he whispered.

Walter gave a sigh, his eyes starting to glimmer with tears as he knelt infront of the woman. A torn expression on his face as he thought for a second, not replying to your question. Then with gentle movements, he brought his wrist up to his mouth, making a shallow bite into his own veins. He moved his wrist which glistened with droplets of bright crimson up to the woman's mouth, as soon as the blood touched her lips a small wave of movement wracked through her.

"Come on.." He muttered, waiting for the woman to drink of his blood. Soon, her lips weakly began to lap at his wrist, and soon the lapping became stronger and stronger, more needful and hungry. He pulled his wrist away and she just sat there, eyes closed. He wearily sighed, giving you a vulnerable look. "We'll have to wait and see if she pulls through or not."
