I am AWARE that the "full version" of the event is not available and it will not be until next year. I am AWARE that the admin and art teams put in a lot of work for this event. I am very thankful for them. Xylax, Deertush, 7th, you guys are amazing and I love you. This thread is in no way meant to downplay your skills or capabilities, because your art is fantastic and i and everyone else appreciate everything you do for us to keep the game fresh and beautiful. This thread is being posted because I would like to hear suggestions and input from the rest of the community, because i am aware that myself and most of my friends very much dislike what has happened to the July event in terms of the rehaul.



The Mechanics

I'm not even sure where to begin with this.

Event Currency is Participation Currency.

Asking the community to pay a tax from their currency in order to participate is, quite frankly, a little bit outrageous. It would be like having to pay stink bugs in order to leave poop in other people's dens. It would be like having to use Khepri beetles in order to fight with your deity, How is anybody supposed to save for items for the event shop with this model?

Battling Sucks.

There's not much I can say other than this. Battling NPCs is a mechanic that not many people on Lioden like to do, but now the only way to get major event currency is to fight for it on a RNG based system that you have to...pay in order to access. With enemies that don't seem to be scaled correctly at all. It isn't even a "you lose so you lost energy try again later" situation. You're physically paying event currency to have your ass beaten by space dragons. And don't even get me started on the bosses, please. How am I supposed to beat a boss when random NPCs are killing me in three hits?

What the fuck is going on?

There's just so much I want to say but I don't know how to put it into words.
It feels like there's been little to no communication from the staff team and it frustrates me because of how much I love this game and how much I loved this event.
This isn't Wolvden, but it sure feels like Wolvden is starting to bleed in over here. July really right now feels like a glorified Lunar event, and I don't like that that's been done.
When the delay news was posted, that was just fine! Like I said, I love this art team, But... this isn't what was expected. I was expecting a delay for the entire event to be posted. This wasn't communicated at all and now people are confused on all fronts, from currency to what's going on to everything else.
I really, genuinely think most people were expecting different storylines from different perspectives from the characters we've been fawning over for years, with Tefnut up first. This isn't what anybody wanted.


On the Topic of Characters

I don't even understand why anyone thought tossing all of the July NPCs out would be a good idea or where it came from. Nobody in the community asked for this. There was so much that could have been done, that I think most people expected. When Tefnut's backstory was teased, everyone was so excited! I was super excited to learn about the celestial world of the lions we loved. We watched Menhit grow up! She's my favorite NPC in the entirety of Lioden and now she's just... gone? So i can fight some random space dragons? I'm just...confused. Like why should i...care? Where is Tefnut's backstory? Apollyon's? Apedemak's? Obviously there was more to learn about him, since one of the explore encounters talked about how he was some crazy guy talking to the sky which implies our character has no fucking idea who Apedemak is from the jump.

Gunna echo everyone here and say the art is STUNNING!
I love space, I love the art! I’m confused why my queen is suddenly in space (although I understand an explanation may come at a later date).

I don’t mind the explore, but I went from 1k+ shards to none. I have a hard time beating enemies as I notice I am CONSTANTLY missing. It’s strange but it is what it is. That being said, I have no more shards. I can’t play constantly as my job and life are more demanding now, and I’m really struggling to explore to find shards to keep playing the event. Of course I love the raffles and I’d love to try to win this year but if I can’t keep up with shards, I can’t get cores, I can’t enter raffles.

I’m also very upset I had about 1k fireflies that are now just gone. I thought maybe they’d be converted but they’re just gone. That’s hurts but I guess it is what it is.

So art and design is incredible, but honestly the grind is not something I can keep up with as a casual player. I also can’t put a lot of money into the game due to bills and such. Hopefully this will be tweaked, but if not then I may go back on hiatus again (I came back for this event because I was hyped haha.)

I just don't see anything I want in the stores so I have no motivation to do anything. I log in to see what else unlocks, but otherwise I don't feel like exploring

Yeah! I completely agree on the tossing of the old NPCs. I was really looking forwards to meeting those since this is my first July Event and reading through the wiki got me really excited for it. I'm AM willing to give this event a chance though!, even if it does..tbh frustrate me at time which is sadly often! But it really hurt knowing that the only NPCs, which were what i was looking forwards to the most, are gone. It really sucks a LOT.

I'm still pretty new to Lioden, only a few months in but the only thing i mainly read about people not liking in the July event was Apedemak's treatment of Tefnut and Apollyon's chin and a couple things in the story. That's all, no body wanted the character to dissapear. Sure, maybe a complete story wipe as long as it was good and fixed some thing but not for all these beloved characters to get tossed!!

Don't even get me started on the battles, they just overall annoy the heck out of me....and don't get me wrong! I LOVE dragons but I also adore storylines and this events old storyline looked so interesting and fun to me and now-it's all gone.

At this point I'm just gonna buy stuff from the shop, give the portal a go then hide the event for the rest of the month..

Just wanted to share this battle that happened just now.

"Return to Celestial Explore?

This really.. isn't fun. And reminds me a lot of the broken WD RNG battle system. Over the past three days I've won about 40-50 % of battles, with seemingly no rhyme or reason. My king wins in 5 moves against a boss drake then gets killed in 2 hits by the snake that does 52 damage. What's the incentive to do this over and over for the next 3 weeks ?

Edit: I think something that would have been a neat idea is us going back in time and undoing those uhh, problematic plot points. Like make us going back in time part of the story. I mean we could go back over and over and over last month. Why not now?

Yeah, after my fifth fight with the glowing green snake who whoops you for 50+ damage each round, and far more losses than wins to creatures which are supposedly weaker/slower than me, I've gotten real tired of this event.
I tried to embrace it for what it is right now, but overall it's skewed, unfair and devoid.

I voiced my qualms a few days ago when it started, and later my appreciation for changes made, however there are still considerable flaws here that aren't being addressed.
I'm also honestly just bored of constantly having to battle to participate, after the entirety of June was battles as well. Something's gotta give, LD

edit: Wanted to mention that I am aware of gimmicks with each opponent (which I do enjoy to some extent) and have figured many out, but even with this knowledge i still lose just as often thanks to imbalance and shit RNG

I used to love this event. I am only doing celestial explore to join the celestial raffle but it feels useless? They should change the RNG so you don't get three shot in one battle. Another alternative would be to give more cores per win and more shards per loss. I dunno. I have issues with the new event like everyone else. So much so that I may just take a hiatus from May-August.

Really doesn't help that it feels like most of the time in regular explore, an entire energy bar gives you like... 10-15 shards. That's literally 2-3 steps in Celestial Explore.

I think that's my main issue with this event. I've been playing through this for a while and I've gotten much better at defeating enemies, but it's still not very fun. I suspect it's to do with the randomness element that also affected wolvden battles. Sometimes, even if you do everything right, you still lose badly.

That randomness plus the expense of exploring in the first place and the minimal rewards makes Celestial Explore feel like a "waste" of shards. I think even addressing one of those three issues might improve the whole system, though optimally I'd love to see all of them tweaked.

A thought: maybe removing MS as a currency entirely would help? Explore enemies would drop Axion cores, with enemies in Celestial Explore dropping even more if you win. Celestial Explore could be limited by a certain number of steps per day (with the possibility of gaining more steps via mini quests or the storyline next year), since we're relying on the demiurge's power/protection. Fireflies could be converted into SC like they're planning or a 2:1 ratio for AC (e: & current stocks of MS could convert to AC at a set rate too).

Essentially, it'd be like a bonus way to generate AC akin to the quests during the fighting pit event. That doesn't fix the randomness aspect of battles, but it'd take the pressure off needing to win them to get AC.

tl;dr I hope we'll see tweaks to the Celestial Explore part of this event especially, as I think it'll make the whole event more fun.

The random aspect is definitely what ruins the entire experience for me.

I like the idea behind each enemy having a unique trait or weakness to exploit (though I think it's gone a bit overboard, as you practically need a notebook to remember which creature needs what etc.), but it's all futile more than half the time as RNG takes the skill right out of it. You can nail a battle, do everything you need to, and still get wrecked because of the overtuning and shit odds of these fights.

It definitely feels like a waste of MS... Which makes me wonder if perhaps that's the entire point? Maybe they're trying to get people to use them all up, rather than having to find a proper means of conversion the way they seem to be struggling to do with Fireflies.
Maybe not, but it's just..
This whole 'Using energy > Find MS > Use energy + MS in Celestial > Earn AC > Finally get to buy things' is so convoluted and empty of any logic that it strikes me as a possibly intentional currency sink

I do enjoy the new artwork and aesthetics of the event, though I do miss how the past years had a full plotline. Mostly in agreement with everyone's gripes about the mechanics though. Mostly the pay-to-play aspect of exploring the cosmos. I was lucky enough to have shards from previous years to use, but I've had to severely limit how much I explore there because they just run out so fast (I'm sure this is intentional though to limit the quantities of MS & Axion cores that are generated.....)
Just upping the amount of shards we get from regular explore would help a lot, & I think they've already boosted encounters so that's good. But I would like to see either more shards gained in explore or less shards required to explore the cosmos.

Another thing I have an issue with is how utterly useless the meteorite shards feel now, you can't use this so called 'currency' to actually buy anything at the moment (I say that since they might change it soon, I dunno) and all it's good for is exploring in another area to collect ANOTHER currency to buy from a new shop >:/

Totally agree with all of this. I joined only last year, right after the July event concluded, and after reading about the various events over the past year, I had been really looking forward to this month, particularly for some applicators and decor, with an interesting storyline. I am sure the staff have been working their butts off to try and do their best, but what has been done for this month and the overhaul... this ain't it, chief.

Yeah, the battles just aren't fun or balanced correctly.
The update post said that the new enemies are supposedly weaker than normal lion enemies, but I had a celestial enemy completely stunlock me, a radioactive snake attack me for 52 Damage, and multiple battles just go for a long time with miss after miss after miss between both of us before the enemy finally knocks me out.

Also, I really REALLY Dislike that there are encounters in celestial explore that give you nothing (The ones with the "Eggs" that say maybe you'll be prepared next year.) or only give you items for next year (The scales/shards/etc)
Like, not only are the teaser encounters useless, they are essentially wasting meteorite shards just to tease something we have to wait and ENTIER YEAR for. I get trying to tease new story elements or something, but this is not the way to do it in my opinion.
