"Can you actually hear me up here?"

That voice was something that the professional on the other side of the line was used to hearing; the one belonging to a man who was dangling above a three mile drop above a jungle canyon from a piece of ancient masonry. This prayer piller, constructed thousands of years ago by an advanced and artistic culture that sadly - and mysteriously - died out only two thousand years ago was the only thing keeping the young man alive. His grip was slipping slightly, his feet unable to find purchase on the rock that was slippery from wet grass and slick mould from years of damp, humid rainforest air.

The young man was Chad Blaise Elliot, or Blaize Elliot as he was better known around the world. The son of the legendary Theodore Elliot, whose trails lead him across the globe and discovered so many ancient secrets and treasures, and contributed so much to anthropology and archaeology that entire courses and degrees were based around his works ... Theodore Elliot was a towering force in the profession of finding things from other times.

His son?

... Not so much.

It was actually a mystery where, exactly, Blaize came from. His father never married, the man always saying 'a gentleman never leaves his lady idle in a parlour, wondering if her husband will come back from another adventure'. With his erratic and heavy workload, he found it unseemly to take a wife and leave her for long stretches of time. He had entertained beauties, but he was from the school of thought that one should only court if one had mind to marry.
So when a son turned up, everyone raised an eyebrow and no-one really wanted to ask outright where he came from. Some DID pose the polite question as to where 'your son's mother' could be, something that would always gain the frosty reply of 'she is well, but she is occupied'. It stood to reason that Blaize was some sort of one-night thing, but with whom and where, and why the normally impeccable Sir Elliot broke his moral code were all up in the air.

Not that this seemed to do much to harm Blaize, at least not in a normal way. Raised by a succession of nannies, governors and private tutors until he attended university, he was allowed reign of his fathers house while his father was off making new breakthroughs in ancient history. This made him, to put it bluntly, spoiled, and this really showed when attending higher education.

A man of means and good blood like his would do well to earn stripes in academia like his father. But whereas his father earned his credentials through hard work, good manners, excellent method and perfect intelligence, Blaize got them through ... being the son of that.
While other students burned the midnight oil, Blaize burned the oil dancing and drinking. While others religiously attended lectures, he turned up in one out of five, if at all. While others were driven to the point of near insanity from stress handing in a dozen papers or more, Blaize always had his somehow turn up, despite the man being clearly hungover and barely awake, and earn perfect marks.

Because no-one wanted to criticize the son of Theodore Elliot.

Especially when Theodore mysteriously disappeared in the heavy mists of Shonosha, disappearing in his trusty biplane into the fog and never coming back. His plane was discovered three years later, but he was gone, as was all sign of him ... Though declared dead for reasons of inheritance and law, many still wondered about his ultimate fate. Blaize was seemingly unaffected ...

Like he was unaffected now. Despite being spoilt and handled with kid-gloves by the same institutions that revered his father, he was still his father's son, and the want to climb all over things in the name of knowledge rang strong in his veins.
Even if his way was brute force compared to his father's much softer touch, and he relied much more on his learned parter, who was watching what Blaize was seeing and hearing his voice through a headset they both wore. Telephones and technology were practically useless in locations like these, but their headsets somehow still worked, and while one was hanging off the edge of certain death, the other was watching from a computer chair.

Oliver had found the library for only one failed attempt. Perhaps it was the books calling to him that made it easier and put him even more at ease. He sat tucked up in a chair and simply sat with his thoughts. Despite technically being on holiday, Oliver couldn't help but wonder how the intern were doing granted he just left them with a bunch of work.

HIs attention was stolen by Blaize's arrival and for a second Oliver admired the fresh and clean look of Blaize, but it was nothing compared to the rugged look he preferred. He watched the water droplets fall off his hair and for a second he fingers itched to run through his wet hair. Instead Oliver tucked his hands under his arms and pressed his back into the chair.

"I slept alright," Oliver replied, looking away from Blaize's hair to look at his own sock covered toes.

"... Are you going to talk to me, or are you just going to be awkward everytime you look at me" Blaize raised a brow, the light from the fireplace giving his eyes a subtle glow. Or was it the effects of Shenoshan magic wearing off?

"I'm not back from the dead or anything"

His head perked up and his eyes went to meet Blaize's, but as soon as he caught sight of those blue eyes he had to loo away. Emotions were starting to rise up, emotions that Oliver hadn't really dealt with.

Did Blaize really want to talk? Or was it more for the sake of those awkward looks that Oliver had to admit he was giving. Did Blaize want to hear what he had to say?

Again looking down toward the floor Oliver gave a shrug before preparing to answer.

"But you kinda are. I never would have thought you'd actually come back. I figured you'd stay there with your people. I never thought I'd see you again. So forgive me for not being able to talk to you," His voice came out harsher, like earlier which surprised him but Oliver didn't really feel like sugarcoating anything at the moment.

"You knew how I felt before you sent me away, things haven't really changed. Aside from how much I hated myself for letting you stay. But I knew I wasn't strong enough and I would just slow you down in the long run," Oliver paused for a second realizing that he was saying far too much and even if it felt like a weight was being lifted, he shut up. Clinging to old and bad habits. He wanted to say more, explain to Blaize that his feelings didn't change even if Blaize had. However, Oliver couldn't make the word come out because part of him feared that Blaize would reject him. Something he didn't want to deal with currently.

"...Oliver" Blaize's voice was soft, something that potentially didn't help the swelling, painful emotions roiling behind Oliver's chest.

"I sent you away to keep you safe. Staying with me is romantic and all, but the stress was starting to strangle your nerves. You literally had to look away when they slit the throat of an enemy tribesman, that's normal there. What kind of life would it be? Besides, what if I never found the bones, and you were 'trapped' there with me? I sent you away for very good reasons"

"We've worked together for three years. You know this about me; when I say I will do something, I do it. I said I would come back once I found my father, so I did. I'm here right now. I don't break promises willingly"

Damn you Blaize Elliot,

He wanted to run, bolt away and avoid all confrontation that was about to happen. The way he said his name in the softest of way was enough to send his heart into a hammering pace. If he wasn't decently healthy Oliver would have been afraid of a heart attack.

Hearing Blaize explain why he sent him away didn't do much for Oliver's views of the situations. Blaize did have a point, Oliver wasn't all a violent lifestyle save for hunting, which he considered necessary. However, Oliver would have never considered himself 'trapped'. Being beside Blaize was all he'd ever want, regardless if they were intimate or not.

Blaize had another valid point, Oliver knew he'd do his best to come back and keep his promise. But even then Blaize didn't control the world, he almost died being reckless about the damn alligator. Oliver's fear of him not returning were more along the lines of Blaize dying and no one knowing.

"You have very valid points, but you didn't take into consideration how much it hurt," Oliver said softly praying for a moment that his words were too soft for Blaize to hear.

"I know it hurt you. I know very clearly it hurt you. But it was better than I hurt you emotionally than you being hurt physically and my having to come back to our homes and explain to everyone how and why you died. I'd rather you were pissed off at me and safe than loving me and broken in a pit somewhere"

The crocodile tooth he was wearing was a symbol of Blaize's reckless, passionate love for anything dangerous or exciting. But it was worth noting he only wanted to move it alive because Oliver didn't want it dead; Blaize would have killed it to spare it starving to death in the pit without the creature's worshipping tribe to provide for it.

"But I'm back now. Everything is fine"

Oliver heard and understood the words leaving Blaize's mouth but for some reason he hated them. He hated everything that was being said because it was harsh truth he had to deal with.

Blaize knew what was good for him before he did. Oliver knew deep down that the love and admiration he had for Blaize would be the death of him. If Blaize hadn't thought about it with feelings aside, Oliver would be injured or worse dead. While normally Oliver would have been impressed that Blaize managed to keep a level head, in the moment he was annoyed.

"No, everything isn't fine," Oliver said flatly, unable to to say anything more. Looking toward Blaize for half a second before looking away. Oliver was weak. If he looked too long he'd forgive anything that happened. Which wasn't the best idea for their situation. They needed to talk about what happened back there and what was going to happen. Oliver wanted to know if he was still his assistant but didn't know how to ask. Would Blaize even want him around anymore? Oliver ignored the fact that he was a guest at Blaize's house of all places which allowed his poor self-imagine to reign supreme. Despite feeling like he was being overly emotional in the situation, Oliver tried to be brave and stay on task. He wanted answers even if they ended up being answers he'd hate.

"Did you miss me?" Oliver asked for a moment of silence, his voice soft again this time he didn't even bother to loo up from the ground, his nervous habit of chewing his lip in full swing.

"... Do you want to know how many people I slept with since you left?"

It wasn't a promising start, but after such a long opening pause where Blaize simply looked at him with a surprised, conflicted look on his face, it wasn't the worst one either.

"Two. Just two. In a year. I could be kind and say none to protect your feelings, but we both know that's not realistic. I only slept with two. Part of it was because the chase simply isn't there; love is free in Shenosha. If it's there, you take it. Where's the thrill? Where's the chase? It's boring, it's almost like grabbing a bottle of milk and some bread on your way back from work, grabbing the nearest willing partner for something quick behind a tree. I couldn't get into it, it became loathsome in a way I NEVER thought even possible"

"And part of it was that I knew you'd hate it if I freely loved everyone there. It would gnaw at you. And normally I really don't care what other people think"

"That's part of the big problem I have; you make me care about or notice things I never noticed before. It's like putting on glasses for the first time that fit your eyes; you wonder how the hell you didn't see all this detail before that"

He wanted to puke not because he was ill or anything but simply because he felt his stomach flip. Part of him wanted to scream at Blaize's suggestion.

How dare he! Oliver never cared before but it his a sort of possessive demon that emerged, which surprised even himself. Oliver didn't care if they who they were but he wanted nothing more then to throw a punch at them both. He'd like be killed shortly after but at least he'd get in a good swing.

Hearing Blaize explain the ease of getting laid was enough to bring his blood to a boil, but he did his best not to let it show. His anger was also mixed in with a bit of hurt, which he new to be selfish. It wasn't like Oliver didn't try to move on himself. David was still pretty recent in his life, granted they hadn't gone further than kissing. What Blaize was admitting hurt more then ever before.

But what stopped the anger boiling and kept his stomach from flopping again was what Blaize said last.

Blaize was comparing him to glasses, which normally would sound cheesy but Oliver didn't mind. It was oddly personal even if he didn't intend it that way.

"Seeing the details are nice, makes the entire picture worth seeing," Oliver replied back, looking up to meet Blaize's gaze for a full five second before looking away.

"I tried to move on. I had a boyfriend for awhile but he didn't scare me like you did," Oliver blurted out. He realized after he said it that his choice of words were borderline creepy.

"I mean scare me as in thrill me. David was safe and sane and doesn't do crazy shit for the sake of doing crazy shit. You on the other hand make my heart race and my stomach do cartwheels. Part of me hates it because I'm pretty sure its taking years off my lifespan, but the other part of me doesn't care because I rather be scared all the time,"

Blaize wasn't surprised to hear Oliver had tried to move in; he was surprised that Oliver actually had a boyfriend. Did he still have one? Blaize wasn't entirely sure; Oliver made it sound like something that he'd tried but ultimately split from. How many boyfriend had Oliver had in his life? He was single all the time Blaize knew him as far as he could tell ... hence, he supposed, he never picked up on the fact that the other man was gay.

"I'm going to be the death of you" He stated for the benefit of them both, "Aren't I ..."

"I'm okay with that," Oliver replied forcing himself to relax enough to look back at Blaize. "I mean its either I death risking my life with someone I love or tuck myself away and read books all day and work research until my fingers fall off and go home to my thirty cats," Oliver tried to smile without looking like he was ready to fall apart. For a split second the again thought about running away but instead he got up from his chair and closed the distance between the two of them.

He couldn't stop himself. His heart was racing still and his eyes felt wet of all of the sudden as he maneuvered himself to sit in Blaize's lap. If the other man protested well then Oliver would move, but until then Oliver sat there in a purely awkward and emotional embrace. Tears were falling for sure now, wetting his cheek and as he pressed his face into the nook between Blaize's neck and shoulder. He smelled of soap and while Oliver's tears were silent he couldn't help but whisper.

"I missed you so much,"

Blaize offered a half-smile at Oliver's predictions for himself. He could see him having his thirty cats easily, he was always more comfortable being tucked away in a little book fort and sometimes actively resented Blaize dragging him away if he had a really interesting research thread or new hardback to devour.

When he stood, Blaize watched him carefully. He had noticed the silent breakdown behind Oliver's eyes, but was putting it down to a combination of deep fatigue and the shock of suddenly seeing Blaize again without warning. The last thing he needed was Oliver collapsing or having a straight up panic attack caused by all his nerves being tangled at once ...

He didn't stop Oliver from climbing into his lap. He didn't stop him putting his hands to his chest, fingers clutching at the white cotton vest top he was wearing. He didn't stop him burying his face in the crook of his slightly damp neck and weeping. Without warning, he raised his uncovered, toned arms and wrapped them tight around Oliver, cocooning him in Blaize's warmth and presence. His head moved slightly, tilting towards Oliver's head as he sighed out his nose and admitted his own emotion back.

"I missed you too ..."

That was an ego boost to last him a few days, but he wouldn't tell Blaize that. Pulling away from his neck for a second and looking up at the ceiling to will away any stray tears, Oliver sat back a bit. It took some adjusting of his position and faith that Blaize was strong enough to hold his weight until he settled. He was still straddling Blaize's lap but now his legs were better supporting his own weight so it wouldn't put too much strain on Blaize the longer he sat.

Oliver to returned his full attention to Blaize, being this close to him was nice and reminded him of their time after his near-death and before Oliver left. His eyes were still captivating and as selfish as it sounded, Oliver wanted to trace the outline of Blaiz'es face for a while. Relearn him in a intimate way, but in favor of not getting distracted, Oliver focused his attention on a burning question that kept poking him whenever he was close to Blaize.

"So..about those people you were with...um...were they just women? Or.." Oliver let his voice trail off. He would get over Blaize sleeping with woman, it would be like old times. But that damned possessive demon would rear it's ugly head again if Blaize did in fact sleep with another man that wasn't him.

Blaize uttered a laugh at the question. He couldn't help it; the way it was asked was funny enough, but the idea of being with another man was so hilarious to him that he couldn't really hold that back.
"No" He shook his head, chuckling, "They were women. I have never thought about men before, and I still don't. I had no idea you liked men; men liking men just doesn't ... Well, exist to me" Shrugging, the weight of Oliver on his lap seemingly not problem for him. He was a strong man, and he'd scaled a whole mountain twice with Oliver strapped to his back plus their packs.

"Men tried. I brushed them off, not interested thanks"

The ego boost went away pretty quick. Especially with the casual way that Blaize seemed to discard his own sexuality. Granted Oliver didn't flaunt it, his mother was probably the only one that brought it up to anyone. Despite not being 'open' about it Oliver was very comfortable with it, but preferred to keep his private life, private.

"You seemed pretty interested in me and I am a man," Oliver stated which sounded oddly like a challenge. As if Oliver was tempting Blaize to admit something he was hiding.
