I celebrate Hanukkah and I don't mind the MOD's having simi-Christmas events like the Advent countdown that went up today but I can't help but feel a little burnt that tonight is the first night of Hanukkah and all I got on here was an advent calendar. Am I the only one that feels this way?

I have to agree with timbergray on this one. Christmas and Easter are commercialized in the same way as Valentine's Day. The parts of xmas and Easter that are presented in LD events aren't religious at all. I'm atheist, and I have several friends that are as well, including my boyfriend. We still celebrate Christmas, as Santa and his elves have exactly nothing to do with Christ.

Well said Serval, that's exactly my opinion on this. Regardless of how commercialized or widespread some Christian holidays may be, that doesn't remove their Christian nature. Other communities deserve just as much respect and recognition.

Yeah, it's gift giving based off of a Christian holiday named Christ-mas. Everyone calls this the Christmas event, because that's what it is. Even if it's commercialized, it's still Christmas.

I want to ask what's actually wrong with recognizing Hanukkah/other holidays on Lioden? Even if December was just about gift giving, would it be a bad thing to add in respect/recognition of others? October added in witch content as did November to an extent, and Paganism is a (still active by the way) sect of religion with lots of different branches and subtypes. Does anyone have a specific reason as to why they're against seeing Hanukkah and other different holidays specifically added to the game?

I'd love for December to have different holidays portrayed!
It'd be nice to get some more decors and backgrounds relating to those holidays during December, since everything is Christmasy, mainly.

I’d absolutely LOVE to include more religious holidays into Lioden’s December event! I’m a very nonreligious person so tbh I’d prefer to keep all religion out of the site, but seeing as we have this event and the October event, we all know that wouldn’t happen. It’s always seemed odd to me that only one religion has been represented during the holiday season. It doesn’t even have to be a huge thing, just a few decors or explore encounters added to represent different religions? Christians may be the majority, but that doesn’t mean their holiday should be the only one represented, imo.

Mostly because once you have one, you have to incorporate all. Other holidays aren't commercialized. And timbergray really said it best with:

"Now I'll let you make up your own minds on what I wrote above. But I know my Jewish friend would be actually very put off to hear that there were people out there lighting candles on a Menorah without knowing or caring what they actually stood for because it was a nifty trick to get some kind of online prize."

As an atheist I could really care less, honestly.

It doesn't have to be about getting an online prize. I would love to see a Menorah decor, or a dreidel, or literally any acknowledgement of a religion other than Christianity. And yes, it's a lot of work to acknowledge every religion, but we already have one. We have Christianity. That's not an exception to religions or holidays just because it's commercialized.

What's wrong with incorporating all, though? I'm talking just adding a few decors for each- what would be wrong with that kind of recognition? Is that a bad thing? It wasn't a bad thing to add Pagan decor in October, and actual biblical demons in October as well. Lioden doesn't shy from religion. I already pointed that out.

If you could really care less, why care that they add holiday decor? This isn't about 'some online prize', this is about recognition that not just Christmas exists. Do you not like that idea or something?

And we don't have to incorporate all, actually. As pointed out to be an argument against me we haven't incorporated all Christian holidays, either. There isn't a secret agenda to replace Lioden events with every single IRL holiday. This suggestion is specifically add Hanukkah recognition. If you were to read through the thread, you know.

As I've stated previously, suggesting a decor might be best. This opens the floodgates to criticism that might not be found in a more thought out suggestion.

Circa pg.2
"Maybe instead you could suggest some things related to hanukkah that could be a decor in the calendar? Or maybe a related encounter in explore? Although there's nods to xmas in this event, there's nothing overwhelming."

I don't think it'd hurt to include some event encounters during explore about Hanukkah, and other holidays people celebrate. Decor would be a nice idea as well! You also have to think about how many people are atheists and still celebrate Christmas, and leave out the whole 'Jesus birthday' thing. The media often forgets about other celebrations like Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, etc. So I don't see the big problem with including smaller celebrations as well. They don't even have to be extremely religious! Maybe while exploring you can find villagers setting up a Menorah, and you get a few StB from it, something like that!

My main reason for not including it would be this, it would cheapen and commercialize the still highly religious symbols in the same way that most of Christmas and Easter has been commercialized to the point where half of the people celebrating it aren't even really aware of its religious significance anymore. Like if everyone started going around wearing a star of David just because oh hey look A pretty new thing.

As for the October event, demons and angels are just about as commercialized symbols as anything in Christmas or Easter. Yes, religion still apply certain meanings to them. But that doesn't mean that the idea of an angel or a demon has no meaning outside of those religions either. Just about anyone on Earth would recognize a symbol of a classic and commercialized angel or demon. So saying that October is religious is also misguided.

Personally I don’t believe in religion but I believe in others rights to religion.

One thing I do like most about events/themes in Lioden, is when I learn something new be it a fact or perspective. I love how there’s an event around poaching and I love how they’ve added encounters around the environment. These things have depth and meaning. I’m more then happy to be exposed to how others celebrate Christmas, I think that’s awesome.
