Roquentin: Hello and welcome! Now below is me trowing some ideas that may or may not help but i want to try to be helpfull
A Custom Languge? Now that is intresting I will say. Now i wonder if This is an ancient languge that has been passed down to generations or if this is a languge that this pride made to comunicate amongst themself and not having others understand? So many possibilities.
Now from what i read (and understand) is that they live in a grotto (from what i saw on google its really pretty and nice idea!) with water runing somewhere (dont know if its a full on waterfall or those steps.) Maybe those facts that can help you name the pride (or the land but i am mostly focusing om the pride name) like "The Grotto drips pride" or something along those lines, but you did also say that there was a lot of crows (or ravens) so maybe a name that reflect that like "The crows nest pride" (or "the ravens nest pride.") Or maybe when the previous king was in charge it was a diffrent name and when paeim became king he change the name?

Anyways i hope that this helps in some way or get the ball roling

Bigmemes: Thank you so much for the ideas! I ended up naming the location "Crow's Nest Gorge", but I'm not sure yet if that should also be the name of the pride, since I want to tie in my secondary account pride into the lore at some point and they'd share a location. I'm also thinking that could just be the name of their territory specifically, with the grotto and gorge edge, and the general area encompassing both prides is called something different. Lots to think about! I need to make a map at some point.

I was thinking the language was originally Paeim's mother tongue, as he comes from quite far away, and he introduced it as an "official" language of the pride when he took over. The pride is currently in such an interesting state of transition imo.

Roquentin: First of all, I really appreciate that you read though everyone's lore. That's very nice of you! We're glad to have you, welcome welcome! I love the lore regarding your king, and his dynamic and interesting background and personality. It's amazing how you tied in the Lioden lore, and gave your king an interesting link to any event that could happen. I definitely want to know more about Paeim and why he became (well, will become) how he is. I like Crow's Nest Gorge as the name, and I look forward to seeing what you decide with the overall naming. If you ever need help, just ask, and I'm sure everyone will be willing to give you some ideas. I'll also try to reply more promptly. I'm really interested in your language, and the idea that it comes from a far-away land that the king comes from. Perhaps it even has to do with his apparent divine abilities? Out of curiousity, how are you constructing your language? Are you just translating every word how you feel, or are you assigning certain letters to change to other letters? For example, if c=t, a=u, and t=l, cat would be tul.

Sentient Being: Thank you so much for the welcome! I think basing lore off of in-game events gives it such a cool spontaneous feeling, like the story can go pretty much anywhere. For instance, I got randomly offered a melanistic lion with Intense Blood eyes on a trade and now it's a huge part of Paeim's character and will pretty much be tied to the pride forever. I wasn't even looking for a melan before this!

I was playing around with the idea of Paeim descending from a line of Asiatic lions (since I said he comes from far away; still trying to figure out how they would've ended up in Africa, perhaps a transporting mishap), and had a cub born with his patches the same day I got the melan, so now the lore is that it's an ancestral djinn-like spirit brought over from his homeland, it shows up as an omen and only lions with the same "birthmark" can see it. And since I plan on decorating it but don't have all the items yet, Paeim's visions of the spirit start out as just the small shadow of a lion and will later become more monstrous. Also, before I froze it, the melan's personality was curious, so I decided it's not actually malevolent. But yeah, I'm having a lot of fun developing Paeim as a character and hopefully I'll end up with something cohesive and compelling.

As for the language, I don't have a concrete plan for it yet, just making things up as I go. I have a general "feel" for what it should sound like and try to base it off that and already existing words. There's no real grammar yet but I do have a couple particles that kind of developed naturally: for example, I kept giving lions names that end in "-arr" so now it means "of the [thing in front of it]", kinda like a patronymic, and now I'm working my way backwards to give the first halves of these names a meaning. I named the melan Manad, which means "omen", so if I were to have a cub that looks similar to it, I could name them Manadarr (daughter/son of the omen). I've always been interested in conlangs so it'd be cool if I could develop this more, but since Paeim is the only actual speaker of the language it would make sense that it hasn't been adopted fully (to account for it being incomplete). I do like the idea of tying it in with his divine abilities too. Maybe the language he speaks is a dialect used by a seer caste his family belonged to.

I'm not sure how much sense I'm making with my rambling lol, right now I'm in "throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks" mode.

Sorry I haven't really been active lately. Been a lot going on, and it's been a lot just keeping up with Lioden. XD I did use the writing contest to break the mild writer's block I gave myself, stressing over my upcoming king changeover (tomorrow on my main :o).

Roquetin: I think that's a really fun way to go about it! I took a look at your lioness, and she's beautiful. And that simple quote is also amazing to give a sense of dread and mystery. I really look forward to seeing how you decorate her, and I love the lore that she's sort of an apparition only visible to some. That's very unique, including one of your main pride as something of a mythical creature.

I'm so glad that you've gotten such good lions and been able to build off of them. This lore is turning out to be very interesting, and I definitely encourage you to share with us as you get things worked out. I really like your inclusion of your king's inheritable mutation as part of the lore. That's something I haven't really seen before. I also want to see how things develop with the mela and the king, and other lions who can see her.

It's definitely difficult making up a language, so I wish you the best of luck! As always, if you need help, we're here. I really like the use of -arr, and I noticed you had a couple of -arras as well. Perhaps you'll think of other suffixes you can use as well to modify names, similar to your -arrs. I like the idea of the language being specific to his family or seer caste, since that makes even more sense for a custom language.

Sentient Being: I haven't actually set up any of the story elements, but Mercutial's retirement went well. I think I mostly know how to transition will go in story, but it's going to take me awhile to get it all flipped over. Right now I'm adjusting to choosing all the evil actions in explore for my new evil king. :P

Also I know the contest is almost over, but it might be a good idea to put the link in the intro thread until it closes, so people can find it easily. It may also be a good idea to send out a reminder pm as we get closer to the end.

And as for the story(s) or lore: I have a genaral idea for every thing and every gen1* lions and sitll have not writen all of it. And i am now on to gen2* witch I think I just have my king done so every things going slow

I'm in a similar situation to Bigmemes. I just switched over my kings so I've been working on getting everything set up with the new king. Progress is slow because I've been having issues with motivation, but getting there.

I finally got my frozen lioness story keeper set up though. She'll keep track of the general outline of my pride lore in a chapter based story format. :) Pretty happy with her.
